Job description

You are a hands-on, working Foreperson with field operations experience in construction and telecommunications/utility installation projects. The successful candidate must have experience with HDD locating and be capable of actively supporting daily field operations while supervising the crew.
As a Foreperson, you will oversee quality control, safety, and overall project performance while delegating work to field staff, contractors, and tradespeople. You will work both independently and collaboratively to execute project plans and schedules, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Some travel will be required. Candidates must be willing to work long shifts and be available for out-of-town work as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates leadership in health, safety, and environmental protections on the project

  • Lead and supervise daily field operations for telecommunications and utility installation projects

  • Perform HDD locating and actively support crews in the field as part of a hands-on working Foreperson role

  • Applies the requirements of the Project Specific Safety Program (PSSP) to promote overall compliance of Ledcor HS&E standards, applicable OH&S/OSHA Acts, regulations and codes with all employees and subcontractors on the project

  • Trains, supports and offers guidance to new hires

  • Ensures project schedules are met while maintaining company standards in regard to quality protocols

  • Ensures that all tailboards, timesheets, driver's logbooks, and billing are handed in on time

  • Ensures compliance with municipality hours of work, traffic protection, environmental standards, traffic bylaws, and restoration standards

  • Manages escalations and provides exceptional customer service to clients related to quality, work performed, standards, etc.

  • Oversees all client specific requirements based on contract requirements

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Foreperson or Lead Hand in telecommunications, utility installation, or civil construction projects

  • Strong understanding of current construction practices and field concepts (including Outside Plant (OSP) construction)

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), HDD Locating, underground utility installation practices, Vermeer drills, and Falcon locating systems

  • Competence in using line locators effectively and the ability to lead and direct the work of others, including the supervision of subcontractors

  • Strong leadership skills, with experience directing and supervising the work of others

  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes

  • Ability to operate industry specific equipment such as vibratory plows, small excavators, skid steers, backhoes and road cut saws

  • Proven ability to oversee multiple project locations simultaneously and, effective organizational and planning skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel and Outlook

  • Must successfully complete a security clearance process along with possessing and maintaining a valid provincial driver's license and a clean driver's abstract

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to various sites across Alberta is required

  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, lifting (up to 75 pounds), in confined spaces and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)

  • Applicants that reside in the Edmonton area will be given preference due to the location of this project
