Job description

Overview

Technical Architect II designs and evolves intelligent workflow and automation solutions in an AI-native development environment. This role combines expertise in application architecture, workflow orchestration, and enterprise platforms with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) to accelerate solution design, code generation, and SDLC execution.  

The architect will support the Payment BU Workflow Intelligence & Orchestration Initiative, collaborating on client inquiry and payment workflows, while contributing to a Center of Excellence (CoE) for AI-enabled workflow development - delivering scalable, secure, reusable, and AI-augmented solutions while minimizing technical debt and avoiding vendor lock-in.

Responsibilities
  • Define architectural standards, patterns, and best practices for workflow platforms, including guardrails for AI-assisted development and code generation.
  • Leverage AI tools (Claude, Copilot) to accelerate design, code generation, and documentation, with strong validation and oversight.
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable workflow solutions aligned to business needs and AI-driven decisioning.
  • Define AI-assisted development patterns (prompt design, validation, governance) for workflow behavior and generated code.
  • Architect solutions across open-source workflow engines (Temporal.io, Camunda, Flowable, JBPM, Drools) and custom services.
  • Design event-driven and service-based architectures using Java-based ecosystems and modern integration patterns.
  • Contribute to a Workflow CoE, driving governance, reusability, performance, and AI-native standards.
  • Collaborate across product, infrastructure, security, data, and AI teams to integrate AI into workflows and SDLC processes.
  • Support CI/CD, DevSecOps, and cloud-native deployments (OpenShift, AWS), including validation of AI-generated code and workflows.
  • Provide technical leadership, code/design reviews, and enforce engineering rigor in AI-assisted environments.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of application architecture experience with enterprise-scale systems.
  • Strong expertise in workflow orchestration, distributed systems, and integration design.
  • Experience with open-source workflow engines (Temporal.io, Camunda, Flowable, JBPM, Drools).
  • Strong development background in Java-based ecosystems and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and container platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS).
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Claude).
  • Strong knowledge of APIs, security (SSO, RBAC), and scalable system design.
  • Familiarity with Agile practices (SAFe preferred) and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in AI-native SDLC environments.
  • Knowledge of governance for AI-generated code and workflows.
  • Experience designing multi-platform workflow architectures.
  • Background in Healthcare IT or payment integrity systems.

Base compensation ranges from $160,000 to $185,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is eligible for discretionary bonus consideration.
