The Department of Ophthalmology and the Cullen Eye Institute provide educational programs for ophthalmology residents and fellows, medical and graduate students, research scientists, and practicing ophthalmologists; support research in the structure, function and diseases of the eye and the visual system; offer the highest quality eye care available; and sponsor public programs for prevention of eye disease and injury. Physicians at the Alkek Eye Center and at Baylor Vision are improving patients' vision and advancing the treatment of eye disease and disorders. The Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine has an opening for a Coordinator, Patient Support Services at the Texas Medical Center location.
The Alkek Eye Center is located within the Lee and Joe Jamail Specialty Care Center building situated on the McNair campus. It is a large, high volume clinical practice offering all eye services from licensed Optometrists and Ophthalmologists in all ophthalmic sub-specialties.
- Works closely with the physicians, medical staff, and patients to assist in optimizing clinical flow by scheduling surgical and other medical procedures.
- Delivers comprehensive patient support tailored to surgical requirements.
- Facilitates seamless patient communication to coordinate surgical and medical procedures. This encompasses providing detailed procedural instructions, liaising with caregivers, offering hotel and transportation recommendations, educating on medications, securing medical clearances, and accurately entering information across various systems.
- Orchestrates all surgical appointments, including pre-op, the surgical procedure itself, post-op, and follow-up ensuring a smooth and coordinated patient experience.
- Meticulously records patient phone encounters in EPIC, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation.
- Diligently documenting all orders and physician instructions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Thoroughly reviews referral data, ensuring all referral loops are efficiently and properly closed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Surgery scheduling experience.
- Insurance verification experience.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume medical setting.
- Patient care experience.
- Experience with Epic.
- Strong attention detail.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
