Job description

Role Overview
We are seeking an Unreal Engine VR Technical Designer to accelerate the delivery of real-time VR experiences by building scalable, reusable systems in Unreal Engine. This role will own Blueprint-based interaction frameworks, project structure, and production-ready VR implementation so our team can deliver high-quality VR experiences in short project timelines.
Our visualization team has deep 3D expertise (3ds Max + V-Ray). We are expanding our Unreal capability and need a hands-on Unreal specialist who can convert design goals into stable, repeatable VR experiences, while improving team workflows and reducing production time.
This role focuses on PCVR experiences using Quest headsets connected to high-performance laptops.
Key Responsibilities
1) VR Experience Development (Primary)
Build and maintain VR experiences in Unreal Engine for in-house PCVR use.
Implement core VR interaction patterns (locomotion, UI interaction, object interaction, selection).
Ensure experiences are stable, comfortable, and ready for customer-facing demonstrations.
2) Blueprint Systems Architecture
Create modular, maintainable Blueprint systems using clean structure, reusable components, and consistent logic patterns.
Develop frameworks for repeatable VR features so future projects are significantly faster to deliver.
Build data-driven systems (DataTables, structs, enums) to reduce hardcoded logic.
3) Performance & Production Readiness
Optimize VR performance using profiling tools and best practices.
Set and maintain performance budgets appropriate for PCVR resolution and framerate.
Ensure builds are stable, consistent, and easy to deploy on Windows VR demonstration hardware.
4) Team Enablement & Workflow Improvement
Mentor Unreal-beginner artists on best practices, naming standards, and logic structure.
Collaborate with 3D artists to integrate assets efficiently for VR.
Establish and maintain project templates, folder structures, and lightweight documentation to reduce rework.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional Unreal Engine experience with at least one VR project delivered.
  • Strong Blueprint skills with proven ability to architect systems (not just assemble levels).
  • Hands-on experience implementing VR interaction mechanics.
  • Ability to profile and optimize VR performance for PCVR.
  • Experience working with VR headsets such as Oculus/Quest via PC.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in collaborative visualization environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with UMG UI for VR environments.
  • Familiarity with Level Streaming or World Partition workflows.
  • Experience supporting visualization teams (architecture, transportation, product).
  • Light C++ exposure (optional, not required).

Soft Skills
  • Strong ownership and accountability; can take features from concept to stable delivery.
  • Organized, methodical, and system minded.
  • Excellent attention to detail and user experience.
  • Comfortable mentoring others and improving team processes.

Success Criteria
  • 60-90 days: Establish foundational VR interaction systems and project templates.
  • 3-6 months: Reduce VR delivery timeline by implementing reusable systems and standards.
  • 6-12 months: Deliver multiple VR experiences in shorter cycles with stable performance and consistent architecture.
  • Satisfies work schedule requirements.

The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required by the employee. Performs other duties as assigned.
