Description NOTE: We will be hiring one (2) candidates. Either a Maintenance I or Maintenance II, depending on the person's qualifications. Please ONLY APPLY for the position that best meets your qualifications.
UNION: Local #320 THE POSITION This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance on streets, storm sewers, the dam, parks, playgrounds and other City property. Serve as Maintenance I, responsible for routine maintenance on streets, storm sewers, the dam, parks, playgrounds and other City properties. Summary of Duties Duties include but are not limited to: Operation of equipment such as skid-steer, paint striper, zero-turn mower, power tamper, walk-behind concrete/blacktop saw.
Install/fix irrigation lines, catch basins, street signs and blacktop patching. Operate snow removal equipment such as MT trackless, walk-behind snowblower, and pick-up with articulating V-plow. Routine maintenance in parks and on streets, storm sewers, and the dam.
Athletic field/facilities maintenance including set-up, striping/layout, game preparations, i.e., softball, football, lacrosse, skating. Cemetery maintenance activities including open/close graves, lift markers, mulch leaves. Other maintenance tasks as assigned, particularly in emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules
Must work scheduled hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required. POSITION EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 1. Basic mechanical ability to operate a wide variety of equipment, i.e., paint striper, power tamper, chain saws, construction equipment, zero-turn mowers, etc
2. One (1) year employment experience performing labor tasks in a similar work situation; including use of ballfield drag, power tamper, chainsaw/chipper, zero turn mower, paint striper, skid steer. 3.
Must work scheduled hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required. 4. Ability to assume standby (on-call) or call-in status when Supervisor determines necessity and capability to perform.
5. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. 6.
Must wear safety equipment as required and follow established safety practices and procedures. 7. Creates a favorable image of the City in contacts with the Public, Elected Officials and other Organizations.
8. Effective communication with supervisor and coworkers. 9.
Keeps Public Services Director or Supervisor informed of any development which he/she may need to know to function effectively. 10. Must exercise initiative, discretion and independent use of judgment over matters of non-significance.
11. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent and/or as assigned by the Public Services Director or Supervisor, or an other designated individual. RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Supervises: May provide work direction and/or training to seasonal employees as directed.
Qualifications/Prerequisites EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITE(S): 1. One (1) year employment experience performing manual labor tasks in a similar working situation, including turf maintenance, landscaping, street maintenance and/or irrigation systems. 2.
Employment experience in operation and backing of a pickup plus a trailer, 1-ton truck with a dump box. Experience within the past twelve (12) months. OTHER PREREQUISITES: 1.
Specific Qualifier/Test(s): Must hold a MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement, or ability to obtain within (6) months & prior to advancing to Maintenance II position. Driver's License must be valid without restrictions and must have a satisfactory driving record. Pre-employment drug screen prior to starting employment.
Able to meet standard background and criminal check. Medical evaluation authorized for the job. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, with or without special accommodations.

ADDITIONAL FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED 1. Employment experience with a Municipality, County or State in a similar position. 2.
Current Herbicide/Fungicide applicators license. 3. Current Arborist/Forestry/Horticulture education or experience.
4. Landscape construction experience, trade skills (plumbing, carpentry, welding, concrete, etc.) 5. Heavy equipment operation experience
