The Information Technology Department at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) empowers high-quality, equitable, and patient-centered care through innovative and secure health IT solutions. Grounded in CHA's mission and strategic plan, IT supports clinical, operational, and academic excellence by providing reliable infrastructure, safeguarding health information, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the selection, development, implementation, and support of Enterprise-level Systems Technologies at CHA. This role serves as a senior technical authority on server, virtualization, storage, and operating system architectures. The incumbent provides technical guidance, develops high-level architectural solutions, and collaborates closely with senior staff, IT managers, and the Epic/Applications teams to ensure seamless product integration and support.
Core Responsibilities
  • Architecture & Strategy: Define technology architecture for systems and applications, balancing key business drivers with the systems required to maintain and enhance administrative and clinical operations.
  • System Monitoring & Log Analysis: Perform day-to-day security log review, analysis, and information security monitoring of regulated and core systems within the enterprise environment.
  • Infrastructure Management: Champion the implementation, maintenance, and support of enterprise production hardware and software systems (servers, storage, and specialized blade platforms).
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with IT Directors and Managers across applications, network, and Epic teams to outline technical strategies, run competitive analyses on new technologies, and set R&D priorities.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required (Advanced degree preferred). Equivalent, relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Experience: 10+ years of systems administrator responsibility in an enterprise, mission-critical environment.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated project and vendor management experience.
Technical Mastery (Required)
  • Hardware & Management: In-depth knowledge of specialized blade server hardware platforms, specifically HPE Synergy and HPE OneView.
  • Virtualization: Mastery of VMware ESXi hypervisors within a high-availability production environment.
  • Endpoint & Configuration Management: In-depth knowledge and mastery of Microsoft SCCM and Windows Active Directory.
  • Operating Systems: Mastery of Windows Server network operating systems.
  • Automation & Scripting: Advanced scripting and programming capabilities with a heavy focus on PowerShell (advanced scripting in a secondary language like Bash, Python, or .NET is also required).
  • Security & Monitoring: Strong knowledge of operating system security concepts, system auditing, and monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Rapid 7 Siem or equivalent tools).
Preferred Skills & Pluses
  • Linux Administration: Experience with Linux network server operating systems (RHEL preferred).
  • Cloud & Workspace: Experience managing a large Enterprise Google Workspace (G-Suite) environment or building/maintaining infrastructure in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Storage: Storage Area Network (SAN) experience is strongly preferred.
  • Databases: Knowledge of enterprise databases and applications (SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Intersystems Caché, LDAP).
  • Modern Infrastructure: Familiarity with modern containerization tools such as Kubernetes and Docker.
Preferred Qualifications
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • HPE Product Certified/Master ASE

Soft Skills
  • Analytical Thinking: Exceptional problem-solving skills with a laser focus on detail during log analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly communicate and document complex technical issues and project statuses to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation and handling high-pressure incident response scenarios.
