The Role

This in-house legal counsel role supports Lumen's Enterprise Sales organization, advising on complex, high-impact customer transactions in a fast-paced, results-driven environment where how we achieve results is just as important as the results themselves.

You will serve as a trusted advisor to sales and business leaders, leading the legal execution of strategic enterprise deals from initial engagement through contract execution. Partnering closely with customer-facing and go-to-market teams, you will help structure transactions, navigate complex negotiations, and provide practical legal guidance that enables business growth while managing appropriate risk.

This is a highly visible role where legal operates as a strategic business partner. Success requires strong commercial judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to influence stakeholders, navigate ambiguity, and translate complex legal issues into actionable business solutions.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Lead negotiation of complex enterprise agreements (e.g., MSAs, SOWs, and other customized commercial terms) from redline through execution
  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to sales and business leaders, providing practical guidance on contract strategy, risk allocation, and deal execution
  • Structure and support sophisticated transactions, balancing commercial objectives with appropriate legal and business risk management
  • Identify emerging legal, operational, and business risks, and communicate clear, actionable recommendations to stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization
  • Partner cross-functionally with compliance, regulatory, product, privacy, security, IP, and international teams to support enterprise sales strategies and evolving technology solutions
  • Develop and refine contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and scalable processes that improve efficiency, consistency, and deal velocity
What We Look For in a Candidate

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 6-8+ years of legal experience, including significant commercial transactions and contract negotiation experience in a law firm and/or in-house environment
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to balance commercial objectives and legal risk while delivering practical, actionable guidance
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and partner effectively across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex matters and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise sales, technology, SaaS, telecommunications, or other complex commercial transactions
  • Business-partner mindset with a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to legal counseling
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI, and their impact on customers, products, and business operations
