Job Description
This position includes laboratory management including taking responsibility for equipment maintenance, hazardous waste management, and ordering of materials and supplies. The position will also involve research support of diverse research projects requiring experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, quantitative PCR, preparation of materials for DNA and RNA sequencing), microscopy, microbial cultivation, and bioinformatic analysis. The position requires teamwork, excellent laboratory notebook and computer organizational skills, and will also include undergraduate research intern mentoring.
Required Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science or Arts degree in Life Sciences or related discipline.
• Minimum of three years experience working in molecular biology-related research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred some experience with microbiology, and coding experience using languages such as python, r, and/or use of matlab as related to bioinformatic analysis.
• Experience in mentoring in an academic setting is a plus.

Compensation Grade
$23 per hour.
Schedule
20-25 hours per week, M-F 8-6:00 pm (8 hrs per day)
Physical Requirements
Able to lift at least 50 lbs; ability to conduct field work including hiking, working on boats, and potentially working in snow fields at altitude.
Conditions of Employment
This position may provide travel to field work opportunities. Molecular and microbiology research requires working laboratory based chemicals some of which are potentially hazardous, requiring knowledge and implementation of safety practices including use of PPE.
