Job Summary

The Core Trainer will assist with the on-boarding and job task-based training of Seasonal and Core Colleagues. The trainer should demonstrate knowledge of all job tasks within their assigned department and function and deliver a high-level of accuracy and consistency when performing the work, training colleagues, or reviewing completed work. Core Trainers will be crossed-trained in all areas of the facility. This role plays a critical part in developing colleagues through training, retraining and supporting both new and current team members to ensure operational excellence, accuracy and consistency. The Core Trainer demonstrates a deep understanding of the end- to- end supply chain flow and embodies the genuine hospitality and inclusive culture of Macy’s.

Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. All schedules contain weekend shifts as part of the requirements. Hours are dependent on business needs and colleague availability.  Information regarding hours per week needed for benefit eligibility purposes can be found here.

What You Will Do

Training Support

  • Support Core and Seasonal Colleagues in assigned departments/functions by training and coaching on essential job tasks to ensure successful job performance.
  • Provide onboarding and operational training for new hires to ensure understanding of operating procedures, safety expectations, quality standards, and productivity goals.
  • Provide refresher training and retraining for existing colleagues who are not meeting operational performance, quality, safety, or productivity standards to reinforce proper operating procedures and improve overall performance.
  • Ensure work instructions, safety guidelines, and quality expectations are consistently followed throughout daily operations.
  • Consult and partner with designated Training Ambassador regarding work instructions, process updates, operational gaps, and training opportunities to ensure consistency and standardization across the facility.
  • Serve as a cross-functional trainer capable of supporting operational training needs across multiple departments throughout the facility.
  • Complete training checklists and conduct follow-up to ensure colleagues successfully complete the training period and achieve operational standards.
  • Perform frequent quality and productivity audits of work processed and provide immediate coaching and corrective feedback when needed.
  • Observe workflows, minimize errors, assess job proficiency, and retrain colleagues as necessary to improve performance and productivity.
  • Partner with Warehouse Managers and Leads to identify operational gaps, problem solve performance issues and implement training solutions that improve execution and productivity.
  • Demonstrate a passion for training and developing others while creating an engaging learning environment that motivates colleagues to succeed.
  • Adapt training methods to support different learning styles and operational demands.

Communication

  • Greet colleagues on their first day of employment and conduct orientation activities including building tours, time clock procedures, and reliability expectations.
  • Act as a point person for colleagues by answering questions related to processes, functions, safety, and operational expectations.
  • Communicate issues, concerns, and performance trends promptly to Managers, or Shift/Functional Directors for quick resolution.
  • Build positive working relationships and effectively influence and motivate others to drive accountability, engagement, and productivity.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail when documenting training progress, identifying performance trends, and communicating operational updates.

Safety Throughout Shift Safety Advocate:

  • Demonstrate and reinforce safe workplace behaviors consistent with company safety policies and procedures.

Essential Physical Requirements You Will Perform

  • This position requires lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands.
  • Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50lbs., stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Reaching, including above eye level, crouching, kneeling, and stooping.
  • Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Frequent use of computers and other technology, necessary to perform job functions, including handheld equipment.

Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility except in locations governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement: 

Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection for testing, absent extenuating circumstances. In all circumstances, testing must be completed within 24 hours of notification.
