Job Description

  • Perform general cardiology clinical care, including in-patient consultation, out-patient consultation and out-patient clinic.
  • Perform echocardiography, exercise and pharmacologic stress testing, Holter monitor an electrocardiogram interpretation, diagnosis and management of arrhythmias.
  • Takes an active role in the evaluation of the patient, decision for treatment/care, and documentation in the patient electronic records.
  • Serves on service level and/or hospital committees as needed and participate in the facility peer review program.
  • Maintains professional competency, courtesy and flexibility or provide the necessary services of this specialty.
  • Possess strong clinical, leadership, and communication skills with a commitment to academics.
  • Maintains a record of successful practice management and excellent clinical skills.
  • All other duties assigned based on the needs of the Medical Facility.
Preferred Experience
  • Preferred but not required, VA Experience, Board Certified with 5-10 years experience
  • Perform, supervise, and interpret advanced cardiac imaging studies, as well as transthoracic and trans-esophageal echocardiography, highly desired.

Recruitment/Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized

Compensation and Benefits
  • Performance Pay: Up to 15k annually
  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
  • Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
  • CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification)
  • Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
  • Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule

8am-4:30pm; however, subject to change, depending on the needs of the service/medical center.

Contract Buy Out Program

This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years).
