About magniX: Based in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, magniX builds solutions for the electric age, applying its aerospace-grade batteries, power electronics, power distribution, electric engines, and software to mission-critical applications across data centers, energy storage, defense, mobility, space, and aerospace. Built on an 800-volt architecture, magniX technology delivers industry-leading energy density, cycle life, and safety, and magniX electric engines have powered more than 200 flights across six different airframes, where the company remains the industry leader. As magniX extends its aerospace-grade standards into new markets, we are building a commercial organization to match, and are now ready to take our technology and products to market. Be part of a passionate team that is ushering in the electric age.

About the role: As a Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer at magniX, you will lead and contribute to the design, specification, and integration of advanced lithium-ion battery packs for electric and hybrid-electric aerospace applications. This role blends hands-on conceptual design with the technical leadership required to guide partners and suppliers through detailed development and industrialization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop lithium-ion battery pack mechanical and structural packaging concepts in collaboration with magniX engineers and external suppliers.
  • Perform CAD modeling of modules, pack enclosures, mounting systems, and aircraft installation interfaces.
  • Ensure designs meet aerospace structural, thermal, vibration, and safety requirements.
  • Thermal runaway containment strategy design and development
  • Define and execute test plans for battery module mechanical testing, including thermal runaway propagation and containment, structural performance, and environmental testing.
  • Define battery pack requirements from the system level down to individual components, considering aircraft integration, safety, and certification needs.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to partners and suppliers responsible for detailed pack design and manufacturing development.
  • Review design artifacts, analyses, engineering changes, and qualification plans to ensure alignment with magniX requirements.
  • Contribute to program planning activities related to battery pack development, verification, production readiness, and industrialization.
  • Participate in development of certification strategies and means of compliance for high-voltage battery systems.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience with EV lithium battery pack design
  • Experience with high voltage and large size battery packs (400V+ and 50kWh+)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with specification and procurement of battery pack components and material
  • Experience with qualification strategy development and testing of battery packs, including thermal runaway containment
  • Proficient in CAD design tools (preferably Solidworks)

Location: Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 100% company-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance (for employees & dependents).
  • 4 weeks paid vacation + 1-week annual end-of-year shutdown, sick time, and 11 paid holidays.
  • 401K retirement plan with industry leading 9.5% company contribution.
