Full-time

Job description

The Veeam Practice Lead is OTAVA’s senior subject-matter expert and technical authority for data protection, built on the Veeam Data Platform. This role owns the reference architecture, standards, and delivery methodology behind OTAVA’s Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS), Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), and Microsoft 365 protection offerings, and works across pre-sales, delivery, and operations to ensure customer environments are recoverable, secure, and resilient. Leading through standards and influence rather than direct reports, the Practice Lead sets the technical direction for Veeam and adjacent data-protection technologies (Zerto, object storage, and Kubernetes/Kasten), serves as the final escalation point for complex recovery scenarios, and owns OTAVA’s technical relationship with Veeam as a Cloud & Service Provider partner. The position is critical to meeting recovery SLAs (RPO/RTO) and to OTAVA’s commitment to operational excellence across a multi-tenant service-provider environment.

Role Responsibilities:

  •  Own the reference architecture, design standards, and delivery methodology for OTAVA’s Veeam-based data protection practice, spanning Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS), Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), and Microsoft 365 protection
  •  Architect and size multi-tenant Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Cloud Connect, and Scale-Out Backup Repository (SOBR) infrastructure to meet customer RPO/RTO targets at service-provider scale
  •  Partner with sales and solutions teams on pre-sales engagements—scoping customer requirements, leading solution design and sizing, and shaping statements of work for backup, replication, and DR services
  •  Serve as the highest-level technical escalation point for complex backup, recovery, and DR incidents across the customer base, driving root-cause analysis and remediation
  •  Design and enforce resilient data protection patterns such as immutability, hardened repositories, object storage with Object Lock, air-gapped/offline copies, and the 3-2-1-1-0 rule
  •  Define and maintain standards for Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) deployment, multi-tenancy, monitoring, alerting, and usage-based reporting and chargeback
  •  Build and validate disaster-recovery runbooks and orchestrated recovery using Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO), including scheduled recoverability testing and audit-ready documentation
  •  Develop automation for provisioning, configuration, and reporting using the Veeam REST API and PowerShell to improve consistency and reduce delivery time
  •  Establish recoverability, capacity, and SLA metrics through Veeam ONE and VSPC, analyze trends, and drive continuous improvement across the practice
  •  Own the technical relationship with Veeam as a Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) partner—tracking roadmap, new releases, and licensing (VUL) to keep OTAVA’s offerings current
  •  Mentor and uplevel NOC, engineering, and delivery teams on Veeam best practices through documentation, enablement, and design review—leading by standards and influence rather than direct authority
  •  Extend practice standards to adjacent technologies, including Zerto (replication, CDP, and orchestrated failover), S3-compatible object storage, and Kubernetes workloads via Veeam Kasten
  •  Document designs, runbooks, and operational procedures to ensure consistency, knowledge sharing, and audit-ready recovery evidence

 Experience

  •  7+ years designing and supporting enterprise backup, replication, and disaster-recovery solutions
  •  Deep, hands-on expertise with Veeam Backup & Replication (v12 / v13) in production—proxies, repositories, SOBR, backup copy, and replication jobs
  •  Strong experience across the broader Veeam Data Platform, including Veeam ONE for monitoring and analytics and Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO) for DR automation and testing
  •  Hands-on experience operating Veeam in a service-provider model—Veeam Cloud Connect for off-site backup and DRaaS, and Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) for multi-tenant management and reporting
  •  Experience protecting SaaS and cloud-native workloads with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Veeam Backup for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
  •  Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container data protection with Veeam Kasten (Kasten K10)
  •  Strong understanding of ransomware resilience and immutability—hardened Linux repositories, object storage with Object Lock, air-gapped copies, and the 3-2-1-1-0 rule
  •  Experience integrating S3-compatible object storage (on-premises and cloud) for capacity tier and immutable backups
  •  Experience with adjacent DR and replication technologies such as Zerto (CDP, replication, and orchestrated failover)
  •  Solid platform fundamentals across VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V, plus Windows and Linux Server administration (the workloads Veeam protects)
  •  Automation and scripting experience with PowerShell and REST APIs (Veeam PowerShell module a strong plus)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  •  Strong drive to solve complex technical problems with scalable, elegant, and maintainable solutions
  •  Expert-level troubleshooting skills with a persistent, results-oriented mindset, especially under recovery and incident-response pressure
  •  Ability to translate business requirements—RPO, RTO, retention, and compliance—into clear technical designs
  •  Ability to remain calm, professional, and confident in high-pressure or incident-response situations
  •  Strong analytical and engineering mindset with attention to detail
  •  Effective communication and presentation skills with both technical teams and non-technical or executive stakeholders, including in pre-sales and customer-facing settings
  •  Ability to lead and influence across teams without direct authority, driving adoption of standards through credibility and collaboration

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered

What We Offer:

Hybrid work, competitive compensation package, base ( $145k - $165k annually), 401(k) with company match, medical, dental, vision, HSA options, life and disability insurance, generous flexible PTO, paid holidays, paid volunteer time off, paid parental leave, professional development opportunities, and an Employee Assistance Program.
