Job description

POSITION SUMMARY An employee in this position performs Library circulation tasks and provides information services to the public through modern library techniques and technology for the Bookmobile at Boone Trail Headquarters. Work involves: driving the bookmobile in a rural setting, demonstrating excellent customer service skills while assisting patrons with technology, working at the circulation desk; searching for information, programming, and performing other Library service needs. Hiring Salary: $40,459.00 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Driving the Winnebago 425S Bookmobile in a rural setting

Maintain an accurate route schedule utilizing effective time management skills. Daily loading and unloading of books and other materials from Bookmobile Provide direct public service by greeting and assisting patrons in person and by phone with library services. Provides reference and readers' advisory services.

Assist patrons with online searches, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), other electronic resources, and the Library's print management system. Retrieves items from the outside book drop. Organizes Library materials and returns items to the appropriate locations.

Works with various office equipment including fax machine, copier, and computer. Performs circulation duties; registers new patrons; checks items in and out; collects lost item and damage fees; reserves Library materials for patrons; searches the catalogue; and manages patron accounts. Sanitizes and tidies areas that patrons frequent.

Plans and implements programming for children, teens, and adults. Assists in promoting bookmobile services, programs, and resources through creative displays, marketing, and social media. Assists the community engagement team in cultivating community partnerships and coordinating outreach and community engagement opportunities.

Performs other related duties as assigned. Evening and Saturday shifts required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: High school diploma; No experience required but some work or volunteer experience in a library or a bookmobile setting preferred; Or equivalent education and/or experience; and Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. Willing to obtain a Notary Public within one year KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Knowledge of computers and the Internet.

Knowledge of basic library filing systems. Skill in delivering customer service. Ability to assist the public with computers.

Ability to plan and implement creative programming for children, teens and adults. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to perform work frequently exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 30 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, speaking, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, and walking.

An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to analyze data, work with color or depth perception, determine accuracy, and works with computer. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works in library and outdoor environments. Job duties require working an assigned schedule which could be a combination of mornings, afternoons, and evening work as well as weekends in addition to working at various bookmobile stops and other locations such as the main branch in Lillington and other branch libraries.
