Job description

The position will report to the Chief Estimator of the Commercial Pre-Construction department but will have frequent interaction with our Operations Team and estimating support team.

Job Description:

· Manages the bid recap from start to finish as well as writing of the proposal letter and filling out bid forms and breakouts.

· Attends bid review meetings prior to submission of proposals.

· Monitors all addenda, scope changes and breakouts to ensure they are processed and incorporated into the estimate in a timely manner.

· Communicates with internal customers concerning issues with project specifications, project scope, reports, value engineering possibilities, timelines or other items pertaining to a bid.

· Verifies the systems specifications summary.

· Leads assigned take-off team in a project page turn to familiarize and communicate the project expectations and requirements for complete and accurate take-offs.

· Conducts quantity takeoffs of Equipment/Fixtures and reviews project plans/specifications to gain a complete understanding of the project's scope.

· Identifies any missing pricing of labor, scope, and material.

· Vendor and Subcontractor scope letter reviews for correctness while maintaining relations and communicating with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors regarding scope, missing pricing and breakouts required to complete bids in a timely manner.

· Coordinates the pre-construction interface between sales and estimating to make sure estimating capacity and capabilities are used in the most productive and beneficial matter possible to achieve sales and marketing goals.

· Utilizes market condition information, knowledge of customer needs and competition capabilities, market niche histories, and the capabilities and availability of internal resources to meet current and projected workload needs.

· Develops, monitors, and manages department processes and procedures to ensure department output realizes maximum productivity with the lowest attendant value of acceptable risk.

· Works under limited guidance with broad general supervision.

· Performs ancillary duties as required to support the departmental goals.

Job Requirements:

· 3+ years in mechanical contracting working as an Estimator or similar function.

· Knowledge of Piping, Plumbing, and Sheetmetal systems

· Experience in system costs for various applications and building types.

· Ability to provide complete conceptual estimates for design-build projects and budgets from a simple mechanical narrative of systems required.

· Interview experience in construction project presentations

· Extensive knowledge of how corporate objectives impact estimating, estimating strategies and techniques of various types of construction contracts.

· Able to interpret contractual documents, plans, and specifications.

· Some courses or work experience in basic mechanical systems and engineering concepts.

· Proficiency with computerized estimating systems (Our client utilizes ESTMEP for our PVF take-off and BlueBeam for drawings).

· Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
