Job Description
This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a Site Civil Environmental Engineer to join our highly collaborative team in Richmond, Virginia and learn to create dynamic solutions on a wide range of complex projects. Our current opening will focus on land development and remediation practice areas with public and private clients. You will work with dedicated professionals that will train and mentor you to a successful career path. The primary responsibilities of this position will include design and permitting for site civil grading, stormwater management, and environmental remediation projects supporting power and municipal clients.
Your Impact
  • Prepare design calculations, under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer, for: stormwater management, grading, erosion and sediment control, and other civil based projects
  • Produce construction documents (plans and specifications) using AutoCAD Civil 3D Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and HydroCAD software
  • Prepare permit applications for various local, state and federal agencies of jurisdiction. Assist with the procurement process and perform construction engineering tasks, including site visits to monitor conformance to construction documents
  • Prepare written reports for clients or agencies of jurisdiction
  • Work under the direct/indirect supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer
  • Observe and document construction of civil and remediation projects.
  • Perform water resources engineering work and analyses relating to stormwater and hydraulic structures and surface water management in accordance with applicable laws, rules and standards.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for stormwater studies, floodplain mapping and stormwater infrastructure design.
  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist technical staff and project managers with environmental risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with low-level threat mitigation activities and remediation projects.
  • Complete field monitoring and inspection of as-built conditions with reporting and photo documentation.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Assist in developing project schedules and objectives for the project and staff.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in a team setting
  • Time management skills and self - motivated to continue learning

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Virginia DEQ certifications for E&SC/Stormwater Inspector and/or Plan Reviewer
  • Experience with projects related to site / civil design
  • Coursework in hydrology / hydraulics and other relevant subjects
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D and HydroCAD (or similar hydro-modeling software e.g. Bentley)
  • Relevant internship experience
  • Experience with construction management, scheduling, and cost estimating principles
  • Ability to support field investigations including collecting, extracting, identifying and compiling environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoRAS, SWMM, HydroCAD, and ArcGIS
  • Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Working knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, etc.
