Job description

POSITION: Assistant Principal/Supervisor of Career and Technical Education 

LOCATION: Pocahontas County High School

CLASSIFFICATION: Professional

REPORTS TO: Head Principal 

EVALUATION: Evaluations conducted as defined in West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5310 and PCBOE Policy 3220.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CONTRACT: 220-day contract

SALARY: Based on experience and education level per Pocahontas County Schools salary schedule. See pocahontascountyschoolswv.sites.thrillshare.com for pay scales and benefits information. 

Term of employment: Term of employment shall be 220 days each academic year (July 1 through June 30).

JOB DESCRIPTION 
The Assistant Principal for Career and Technical Education serves as an instructional leader responsible for assisting in the administration, supervision, and continuous improvement of all Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. The position ensures compliance with West Virginia Board of Education policies, West Virginia Department of Education regulations, federal Perkins requirements, and local board policies while promoting high-quality career preparation and workforce readiness.

The Assistant Principal provides leadership in curriculum implementation, student achievement, school safety, industry partnerships, credential attainment, Simulated Workplace implementation, and monitoring of CTE completers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid West Virginia Administrative Certificate or Administrative License in accordance with WVBE Policy 5202.
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) Administrative Endorsement or eligibility to obtain the endorsement within a timeframe established by the County Board of Education.
  • Master's Degree or above in education, with emphasis on leadership/administration
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful educational experience.
  • Completion of WVDE-approved training in personnel evaluation as required by state law.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district will not be eligible for consideration.
  • Experience in Career and Technical Education administration, workforce development, or secondary school leadership.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the WV Standards for High Quality Schools (WV Code 18A-2-9).
  • Knowledge of the school accreditation process (WV Code 18A-2-9).
  • Knowledge of strategic planning for continuing improvement (WV Code 18A-2-9).
  • Knowledge of best practices relative to secondary curricula and instruction/school improvement.
  • Knowledge/skills to utilize WVEIS 2.0.
  • Knowledge of current student discipline and attendance requirements.
  • Knowledge of student enrollment procedures; school scheduling; substitute management processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Instructional Leadership

  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of CTE instructors.
  • Monitor classroom instruction to ensure alignment with WVBE Policies 2510 and 2520.
  • Support implementation of rigorous, standards-based instruction.
  • Promote interdisciplinary learning and embedded academic credit opportunities.
  • Lead professional learning for CTE faculty.

Simulated Workplace Leadership

  • Coordinate implementation of the WVDE Simulated Workplace model across all approved CTE programs.
  • Monitor implementation of all required Simulated Workplace protocols with fidelity.
  • Coordinate business and industry reviews and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Ensure student-led company structures, workplace safety, attendance systems, performance evaluations, and professional expectations are consistently implemented.
  • Monitor classroom compliance with safety, 6S practices, workplace culture, and accountability requirements.
  • Assist teachers in maintaining documentation required for WVDE monitoring.

CTE Completer Monitoring

  • Develop systems to identify students on track for CTE completer status.
  • Monitor completion of required coursework within each approved program of study.
  • Track industry-recognized credential attainment.
  • Monitor technical skill assessments and program performance measures.
  • Ensure completer data is accurate within WVEIS and WVDE reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with counselors/ Graduation Coach to ensure students remain on pathway toward program completion.
  • Analyze completer data to improve graduation rates, credential attainment, and postsecondary outcomes.
  • Monitor placement data for employment, military service, apprenticeships, and postsecondary education.

Career Readiness 

  • Promote employability skills throughout all CTE programs.
  • Support Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).
  • Expand work-based learning opportunities.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local employers, workforce agencies, and higher education.
  • Promote apprenticeships, internships, and dual credit opportunities.

Program Administration

  • Assist in scheduling CTE courses.
  • Coordinate CTE student recruitment and retention.
  • Assist with budgets, inventories, and equipment replacement plans.
  • Ensure laboratories meet all safety standards.
  • Assist with grant implementation and Perkins compliance.

Student Services

  • Assist with student discipline and attendance.
  • Promote positive school climate and workplace professionalism.
  • Support student leadership and recognition programs.
  • Monitor equity and access within CTE programs.

Data and Accountability

  • Analyze student achievement and program performance data.
  • Monitor credential attainment rates.
  • Monitor concentrator and completer performance.
  • Assist with continuous improvement planning.
  • Prepare reports requested by the principal, county office, and WVDE.

Athletics and Extracurricular Oversight

  • Assist the Principal in providing administrative oversight of athletic programs, extracurricular activities, clubs, organizations, and student events.
  • Support compliance with county policies, West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) regulations, eligibility requirements, and extracurricular activity guidelines.
  • Promote student participation, sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship, and positive representation of the school.
  • Assist with the supervision and support of athletic directors, coaches, sponsors, volunteers, and activity supervisors.
  • Coordinate and support scheduling, event management, transportation, supervision, and safety procedures for athletic and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist in ensuring appropriate administrative or supervisory coverage for home athletic events, extracurricular activities, and school-sponsored events as assigned by the Principal.
  • Ensure athletic events, field trips, and extracurricular activities are appropriately supervised and conducted in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Serve as the administrative representative at athletic and extracurricular events as assigned by the Principal.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative duties assigned by the principal.
  • Participate in accreditation, monitoring visits, and WVDE reviews.
  • Assist in emergency management and school safety planning.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position or as assigned by Superintendent of Schools
