Position Summary

PowerRise is seeking a motivated Junior Distribution Engineer to support our Owner’s Engineer services team. In this role, you will work closely with Senior/Principal Engineers to facilitate the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) into the electric distribution grid. This is an excellent opportunity to build a career in grid modernization by gaining hands-on experience in loadflow analysis, queue management, and utility project scoping.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering Support & Analysis: Assist senior engineers in performing interconnection studies and loadflow analyses for DER applications.
  • Queue Analysis Assistance: Support the evaluation of DER applications against technical interconnection requirements to help determine queue positions and necessary grid upgrades.
  • Scoping & Estimating: Draft initial distribution scopes of work for DER upgrade projects and assist in compiling cost estimates.
  • QA/QC & Documentation Support: Assist in reviewing technical designs and help draft reference materials, process flow diagrams, and training documentation for interconnection activities.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a liaison between internal utility departments and external developers to gather data and track application progress.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited university.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, utility distribution design, or power systems (recent graduates with relevant coursework or internships are encouraged to apply).
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical power systems and Distributed Energy Resources (solar, battery storage).
  • Familiarity with or academic exposure to power flow analysis software (e.g., CYME, Synergi, Milsoft).
  • Strong analytical, problemsolving, and communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and take direction from Senior/Principal engineering staff.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Knowledge of distribution design standards and NESC codes.
