Job description

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval includes an award amount of up to $200,000 and an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
  • Degree obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Specifically:
    • Approval by ACGME or AOA for the year of completion
    • OR one year of post-medical school training (internship or first year of residency) approved by ACGME or AOA, followed by two years of independent practice in the United States
    • OR non-US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, performing duties related to the position
  • Residents currently enrolled in accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).
  • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis, are not considered independent practitioners, and do not have privileges.
  • PRPs are to have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
  • In rare circumstances, the Facility Director may submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience: Reading and interpreting general CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, DEXA; perform minor interventional procedures such as joint injections.

  • The VA Fargo Healthcare System is recruiting for an on-site Diagnostic Radiologist.
  • Duties of the Diagnostic Radiologist include performing duties and responsibilities in general radiology, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound, DEXA, nuclear medicine, and basic interventional procedures.
  • Participate in and support performance improvement activities, including but not limited to external review programs, internal peer review programs, and accreditation requirements.
  • Utilize Powerscribe and ensure timely and consistent imaging reporting and record keeping.
  • Provide accurate, concise, timely documentation of care in the electronic medical record (CPRS) on each patient care occurrence.
  • Interpretation and dictation of reports must be completed utilizing PowerScribe voice recognition system for dictation and in the required VAMC format.
  • Verification of reports must be completed in accordance with established metrics.
  • Ensure communication for direct patient care is accomplished among imaging staff and providers.
  • Be knowledgeable of changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric age groups.
  • Have ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status and identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care based upon age-related factors.
