Job description

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior AI Engineer to own the development and evolution of two foundational components of our clinical AI platform: the clinical NLP integration layer that connects existing coding infrastructure with the AI pipeline, and the golden dataset pipeline that establishes trusted evaluation standards across the program. In this role, you will design and implement scalable data and AI workflows that enable accurate, measurable, and explainable clinical AI solutions within a regulated environment.

You will apply deep expertise in clinical language processing, healthcare data workflows, and machine learning evaluation methodologies to build annotation pipelines, develop scientifically rigorous ground truth datasets, and train high-performing classifiers across complex clinical documentation scenarios. This role involves a strong understanding of MEAT (Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment, and Treatment) evidence within real-world clinical notes, as well as the ability to address challenges associated with sparse, skewed, and evolving label distributions. Working closely with the CDI (Clinical Document Improvement) Lead, Data Scientists, MLOps Engineers, and AI platform teams, you will co-own the golden dataset strategy, establish evaluation frameworks, and ensure the reliability, scalability, and clinical validity of AI-driven coding solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain components of agentic AI framework under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Leverage open-source AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen) to build and experiment with agents for diverse use cases
  • Incorporate selected open-source solution into our agentic AI framework
  • Collaborate with product engineers to integrate AI agents into customer-facing applications and internal tools
  • Write clean, maintainable Python code for AI workflows, APIs, and data integration tasks
  • Assist in testing, debugging, and improving performance of AI-powered workloads
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing across the team
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change as the needs of Cotiviti and requirements of the job change.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 5 years of software engineering experience, with exposure to AI/ML concepts or platforms
  • Solid programming skills in Python; familiarity with frameworks like FastAPI or Flask a plus
  • Hands-on experience with at least one agentic AI framework (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen) through projects, internships, or work experience
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Exposure to orchestration frameworks (Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with modern LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)

Nice to have:

  • Experience in Risk Adjustment coding

Cognitive/Metal Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate as a team with a sense of urgency.
  • Professional with ability to properly handle confidential information.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Flexibility to work with global teams as well geographically dispersed US based teams.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.
