Title:  Lead Radiologic Technologist

Reporting Relationship:  Diagnostic Imaging Manager

General Summary of Position: The lead imaging technologist serves as the clinical and technical resource for the imaging department. This position works closely with the imaging manager to promote high quality patient care, regulatory compliance, workflow efficiency and staff development while maintaining competency in all required imaging modalities. The lead technologist provides day-to-day operational support and serves as a resource for technologists, imaging staff and other departments.

This employee procures radiographic examinations as well as medical imaging examinations ordered by providers. This position is responsible for obtaining quality diagnostic images as ordered by a licensed provider, maintaining patient safety, practicing radiation protection principles, and supporting the overall operations of the Imaging Department. These services are provided in an ethical, professional manner. A 30-day notice is required when this employee resigns from this position.

Essential clinical requirements:

1. Must be able to work shifts during the day, nights, weekends, and holidays.
2. Performs radiographic and CT Scan examinations, and related procedures using a variety of technical skills and organization.       
3. Responsible for performing quality assurance and quality control procedures when necessary.
4. Communicates and interacts well with the staff, allied health care personnel, physicians, patients and the community, so as to project a positive image of the department and the hospital, and to coordinate quality patient care with special attention to patient age and needs.          
5. Maintain confidentiality of the hospital related information.
6. Required to take call.
7. Transport patients to and from various patients care areas being aware of individual patient needs.  
8. Maintain and complete patient records and reports.   
9. Report equipment concerns promptly to the appropriate service provider and imaging manager.
10. Maintain proper radiation protection for self and patients.
11. Flexible attitude and ability to adapt to every changing workload, with the willingness to cross-train into other modalities of radiology.
12. Participates in own performance evaluation by identifying individual goals and reviewing progress with department manager.
13. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by meeting annual requirements for validation of competency in specified skills.
14. Be alert and able to concentrate on work with many interruptions and have good memory retention for work and cases completed for the duration of shift and on call hours.
15. Participate in teaching, mentoring and overseeing students enrolled in Imaging Technology Programs during clinical rotation and students shadowing in department as part of an internship or cadet program.
16. Participate in scheduled meetings and trainings.
17. Participate in a minimum of 80% of the scheduled department meetings.

Clinical Leadership:

1. Serves as the lead technologist and technical resource for imaging staff.
2. Coordinating daily modality coverage and staff schedule.
3. Ability to adapt and change staff assignments when workload changes
4. Assist with daily workflow coordination to ensure efficient patient throughput.  
5. Assist with resolving workflow concerns.
6. Provide guidance and support for complex imaging procedures.
7. Maintain competency in required imaging modalities
8. Promote excellent customer service and patient satisfaction.
9. Lead by example through professionalism and accountability
10. Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork.
11. Promote a culture of patient safety and quality
12. Acts as a liaison between imaging staff, providers, nursing departments and the imaging manager.
13. Reviewing repeat/reject analysis monthly
14. Monitoring contrast competencies
15. Assisting with all inspection preparations.
16. Serving as a modality and PACS super user and first point of contact for troubleshooting.
17. Assisting with training students, interns, and new hires.
18. Building and promoting a robust process for monitoring image quality, turnaround times, repeat rates, etc.
19. Working with contracted radiology company to implement new protocols.

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance:

1. Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement activities
2. Monitor image quality and repeat analysis trends
3. Ensure adherence to department protocols and imaging standards.
4. Assist with equipment quality control documentation
5. Participate in accreditation activities including ACR, MQSA, state inspections and regulatory requirements.
6. Support radiation safety practices and ALARA principles
7. Assist with policy review and implementation

Equipment and Supplies:

1. Report equipment concern promptly to the appropriate service provider and imaging manager.
2. Coordinates routine quality control and preventative maintenance activities.
3. Assists with evaluation of new equipment and technology.
4. Monitor supply inventory and communicate ordering needs to the materials team and imaging manager.

Education and Staff Development:

1. Assist with orientation and onboarding of current and new employees.
2. Provide ongoing educational and mentoring for imaging staff.
3. Assist with annual competencies and skills validation.
4. Develop a quality control process for random image quality checks and feedback to techs.

Operational Support:

1. Assist imaging manger with implementation of department goals.
2. Provide input regarding workflow improvements and process changes
3. Assist with department performance metrics and quality initiatives.
4. Serves as acting department lead in the absence of the imaging manager when delegated.
5. Assist with payroll in the absence of the imaging manager when delegated
6. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

                            Education:

                  Required: High School Graduate or equivalent

    Required: Graduate in good standing from a JRC/AMA Radiologic Technology Program.

Experience:

                  Required: Multi-modality experience

   Required: Minimum of three years of imaging experience

                License/Certifications:

Required: ARRT, State of Nebraska Medical Radiographer License

                                Preferred: BLS

Expected work hours: 40 hours plus call

Expected to work a minimum of 4 weekday shifts.
