Job description

Position Overview
Petersen Brothers Construction (PBC) is seeking a highly disciplined PEMB Operations Manager to lead the execution of all Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) projects. This role is responsible for turning awarded work into successful projects owning scheduling, field execution, manpower planning, and project outcomes. This is a pure operations role focused on delivery, efficiency, and profitability, not sales or preconstruction. The ideal candidate is a builder-first leader who thrives in the field, drives accountability, and ensures every PEMB project is executed at a high level.
Key Responsibilities
  • Project Execution Leadership
    • Take full ownership of projects at handoff from preconstruction
    • Lead project kickoff, ensuring clear scope, schedule, and expectations
    • Drive execution from mobilization through completion
    • Ensure alignment between office, field, and vendors
  • Field Operations & Erection Oversight
    • Direct and support superintendents and field crews across all PEMB projects
    • Oversee erection sequencing, crane utilization, and crew sizing
    • Ensure proper installation of
      • Primary steel
      • Secondary framing
      • Roof and wall systems
      • Insulation systems (e.g., Simple Saver)
      • Liner panels, trim, and accessories
    • Identify and resolve field issues quickly to maintain production
  • Scheduling & Production Management
    • Build and manage detailed PEMB erection schedules
    • Sequence work to maximize efficiency (crew flow, crane picks, deliveries)
    • Coordinate dependencies (e.g., secondary complete before roof install)
    • Identify opportunities to accelerate schedules (overtime, crew stacking, etc.)
  • Manpower & Resource Planning
    • Plan and allocate labor across multiple projects
    • Optimize crew size, skill mix, and productivity
    • Coordinate equipment needs (cranes, lifts, telehandlers, etc.)
    • Ensure proper staffing to meet schedule demands
  • Vendor & Material Coordination
    • Coordinate directly with PEMB manufacturers and suppliers
      • Delivery schedules
      • Material sequencing
      • Missing/damaged materials
    • Ensure projects are ready to receive and install materials without delay
    • Oversee unloading, staging, and site logistics
  • Financial Performance (Execution Side)
    • Track job costs, labor productivity, and installation efficiency
    • Identify and correct cost overruns in real time
    • Support billing milestones tied to erection progress
    • Work with PMs/accounting to maintain strong cash flow
  • Problem Solving & Field Leadership
    • Serve as the escalation point for field challenges
    • Make real-time decisions to keep projects moving
    • Maintain strong communication between field teams and leadership
    • Drive accountability across all levels of execution
  • Quality & Safety
    • Ensure all PEMB installations meet manufacturer and PBC standards
    • Implement and enforce quality control processes
    • Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols
    • Conduct site visits and inspections regularly

Qualifications
  • 7+ years in PEMB, structural steel, or commercial construction
  • Proven experience managing field operations or multiple projects
  • Deep understanding of PEMB erection sequencing and systems
  • Experience running crews and coordinating cranes/equipment
