Job description

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC has an opening for Design Professional I to support on-going projects in the Birmingham, AL office. The Design Professional provides support to the lead architect in the design, selection, coordination, and detailing of architectural materials and systems.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area
  • Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks
  • Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
  • Acquires and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
  • Performs basic design tasks
  • Perform code and product research
  • Visits sites to prepare as-built drawings of existing buildings
  • Prepares construction document drawings in CAD or Revit
  • Assists on other tasks such as preparation of permit applications and project manuals
  • Collects data and gathers information, performs standard computation and analysis
  • Coordinates with engineering consultants on assigned projects
  • Prepare meeting agendas and document meeting notes
  • Responds to contractors RFIs and communications during construction
  • Review shop drawings for conformance with construction documents
  • Occasional site visits to projects during the construction phase to monitor construction progress
  • Performs any other tasks as needed by Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited architectural program
  • Previous architectural internship experience preferred
  • Must be able to perform work-related travel and have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be local to GMC office
