The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) Academic Learning Internship and Faculty Training (A-LIFT) Office is seeking a Student Assistant for STEM Education Programs (Berkeley, CA) for the summer to support our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) internships and outreach events.
In this hybrid role, the student assistant will provide crucial administrative and logistical support that guarantees a seamless, professional experience for our participants while allowing core staff to focus on strategic planning. This position is a twelve-week appointment from June to August 2026. There is the possibility for the role to be extended into the academic calendar year, contingent upon available funding.
We're here for the same mission, to bring science solutions to the world. Join our team and YOU will play a supporting role in our goal to address global challenges! This is a fun job, and no two weeks will be the same!
You will:
  • Support in-person and virtual events, managing spreadsheets and file archives, recording logistics, and preparing electronic and printed media.
  • Interact with Berkeley Lab staff and program participants (mostly undergraduates).
  • Play a key role in alleviating administrative bottlenecks, sustaining operational efficiency, and optimizing overall team bandwidth.
  • Assist with social media.

We are looking for:
  • Currently enrolled undergraduates pursuing a degree at a U.S. college or university.
  • Interest in event planning and public speaking.
  • Strong written communication skills and email etiquette.
  • Experience with events hosted by programs, clubs, or special interest groups.
  • Experience using Zoom and other online collaboration tools.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g., Google Suite).
  • Strong demonstrated attention to detail, with the ability to produce quality work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work in a flexible, changing environment.

How to apply:
  • Submit a current resume and cover letter detailing your relevant experience and interest in the role.

Additional information:
  • Appointment type: This is a full-time student assistant appointment in Summer 2026 with the possibility of renewal in Fall 2026 semester based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • Salary range: The hourly range for this position is $19.18 - $25.18. Pay will be dependent on the current level of education.
  • Background check: This position is subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • Work modality: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab. A REAL ID or other acceptable form of identification is required to access Berkeley Lab sites (for more information click here).
