Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Drivetrain Engineer I-III based at our Counterbalance Development Center (CBDC) in Portland, Oregon.
Level placement is based on experience, technical expertise, and scope of responsibility.
What you will do:
  • Engage in both hands-on testing and mechanical design of drivetrain systems, including drive axles, transmissions, brakes, and related subsystems.

  • Create and release designs for in-house and purchased components using Siemens NX software.

  • Plan and carry out development and validation testing, then analyze test results to ensure performance and reliability.

  • Work collaboratively with teams across manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, aftermarket, and testing to deliver high-quality products.

  • Learn and apply the team's analysis methods and development processes to continuously improve product outcomes.

What you will need:
Engineer I
  • Education: Bachelors in Engineering

Engineer II
  • Education: Bachelors in Engineering; Masters preferred

  • Experience: 1 - 2+ years of industry experience and/or 2 internships (e.g., MECOP)

Engineer III
  • Education: Bachelors in Engineering; Masters preferred

  • Experience: 3+ years of industry experience

Skills, Experience & Abilities:
Engineer I
  • Fundamental understanding of drafting practices, computer-aided design (CAD), design layouts, and engineering analysis, particularly in vehicle or automotive technology.

  • Ability to demonstrate core professional competencies such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Engineer II
  • Basic to intermediate skills in drawing practices, CAD, engineering analysis, and design layouts.

  • Knowledge of vehicle or automotive technology, manufacturing methods, hands-on design and testing experience, and familiarity with test procedures.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in essential workplace skills including collaboration, adaptability, and technical communication.

Engineer III
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in drawing practices, CAD, engineering analysis, and design layouts.

  • Strong understanding of vehicle or automotive technology, manufacturing processes, design and testing experience, and test procedures.

  • Basic knowledge of industry regulations, project scheduling, and supervisory practices.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in advanced professional skills such as leadership, project management, and effective communication.
