This position is responsible for necessary repairs and maintenance of county buildings and grounds. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
The Grade for this position is a 12.
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Performs repairs on all Barrow County buildings such as painting, drywall, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
  • Completes work orders turned in to computer trouble ticket system; reports status of work order to supervisor.
  • Performs preventative maintenance such as replacing HVAC filters.
  • Moves furniture when needed.
  • Repairs roofs as needed.
  • Cuts grass, spreads straw, uses blower, recycles items, and washes truck.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of electric, battery, and plumbing tools.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Skill in carpentry.
  • Skill in pressure washing.
  • Skill in basic computer operations.
  • Skill in lifting objects over 100 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes a sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, library, computer room, stockroom, warehouse, or a very noisy place. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. The work is performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather and requires the uses of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
