The Assistant Chaplain serves as a member of the liturgy team assisting with planning, preparation, and student liturgical minister formation. This roles helps prepare students for confirmation and is responsible coordinating the chaplains' outreach to Hispanic/Latino students. This position is a full time, 12-month position that reports to the Senior Associate Chaplain.

Job Description

Major Areas of Responsibility:

Liturgy Team Member

  • Meet weekly with members of the liturgy team

  • Assist at holy day liturgies

  • Work with other members of the liturgy team to coordinate major campus liturgies (Mass of the Holy Spirit, Baccalaureate Mass, Lessons & Carols, Multifaith Prayer, Family Weekend, Confirmation) - coordinate and rehearse student ministers, coordinate set up of venues with facilities staff

Coordinate Liturgical Ministers

  • Recruit and supervise liturgy coordinator interns and oversee ongoing formation including weekly catechetical meetings

  • Conduct ministry-specific training and formation sessions for new Communion ministers, greeters, altar servers and lectors, and meet with each prospective minister

  • Presence in the sacristy for 11:30 am and 7:00 pm Sunday Masses

  • Monitor weekly schedule of ministers and Mass attendance

  • Train student ministers to serve as liturgical coordinators at weddings

  • When students are unavailable, staff weddings or arrange coverage

Hispanic/Latino Ministry and Outreach

  • Serve as the point person for incorporating traditions and feast days that have particular meaning to the Hispanic/Latino community into Chapel liturgies and programs

  • Provide support and pastoral care for Spanish speaking students and students of Hispanic/Latino descent

  • Collaborate with chaplain colleagues to ensure that Campion House is experienced as a place of hospitality for students of all background

Faith Formation

  • Confirmation program: lead weekly Confirmation class and communicate with colleagues in the diocese regarding hosting the sacrament of Confirmation

  • Advise student-led Bible Study

  • Advise Students for Life

General Chaplaincy Duties

  • Member of Faculty Assembly

  • Attend hospitality events (Bagel Wednesday, receptions)

  • Co-lead Montserrat evenings

  • Weekly staff meetings

  • Regular administrative faculty meetings


College Committees

  • Opening Day Committee

  • Commencement Planning Committee

  • Other committees as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in theology or pastoral ministry, M.Div. preferred

  • Fluent in Spanish

  • Experience working with young people who are traditionally underrepresented on College campuses

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Familiarity with Ignatian spirituality is a plus, willingness to learn about Ignatian spirituality is essential.

  • Strong public speaking skills

  • Available to work Sundays, one evening weekly and occasional weekends

Salary: The Assistant Chaplain for Liturgy and Faith Formation salary range is $64,000-$67,500 commensurate with experience.
