What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern, you need a foundational understanding of your field of study, a willingness to learn, and academic qualifications relevant to the internship. Familiarity with productivity tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or industry-specific software is often expected. Strong communication, time management, and a proactive attitude are soft skills that help interns stand out. These skills and qualities are vital for maximizing learning opportunities, contributing effectively, and demonstrating potential for future employment.

What types of projects or responsibilities can I expect during an internship (internado) and how do they contribute to my professional development?

During an internado, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that range from supporting daily operations to assisting with specific department initiatives. Typical responsibilities may include conducting research, preparing reports, attending team meetings, and collaborating with staff on ongoing assignments. These tasks are designed to provide hands-on experience, build your industry knowledge, and develop key professional skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Successfully completing an internship often opens doors to further career opportunities within the organization or industry.

What are 'internados'?

An 'internado' refers to an internship, typically in a professional or academic setting, where students or recent graduates gain practical experience in their field of study. In many Spanish-speaking countries, an 'internado' is often a required part of medical, engineering, or other professional training programs. Participants work under supervision, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world tasks to develop their skills and prepare for future employment. Internados can be paid or unpaid and often last several months to a year, depending on the institution and program requirements.

Ambos roles buscan formación práctica, pero el Internado puede tener un enfoque más académico, y el Practicante, más laboral.

Job description

Internship Description and Requirements:

BLDM is the national leader of electro-mechanical and telecommunications work in the construction industry. Our philosophy is based on safety and customer first conduct, mutual trust, hard work, and team building. We are dedicated to fostering a work environment that challenges, enriches, and rewards everyone. We believe in continuous performance improvement through the ongoing challenge of our standards of excellence and productivity required.

Our Summer Internship Program formally began in 2016 and has proven to be a powerful and successful recruiting tool, helping us to find the brightest young talent to bring fresh and innovative new ideas to BLDM. Successful intern candidates will work as Field Engineers for 8 summer weeks. Therefore, the overall goal of the program is to recruit the best of the best mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers or project management students each year with the hope of breading future candidates for full time professional positions.

Our internship program also seeks to create a remarkable and unparallel learning experience for students, so that they will think enthusiastically about the electro-mechanical and telecommunication construction industry. Each summer, we strive to ensure that students experience the benefits of working for a modern 21st Century construction company, where they can gain valuable hands-on experience, working directly with project managers, field engineers, supervisors, and foremen in the field. We sincerely hope that our efforts create a pipeline for the best of the best to join BLDM upon graduation and keep BLDM's supervisors in touch with the new generations of professionals by providing superior groups of candidates to preview each year.

This internship program will be unique, and all students will gain valuable experience which will help them understand more about our industry. It will provide college students with on-the-job training and experience while making important contributions to our organization. For 8 weeks, Interns will be working on construction projects and will be shadowing and assisting experience project engineers and managers. These projects often involve analyzing details and finding better solutions or approaches. We do our best so that our internship gives real-world experience to each student. They will gain a tremendous amount of information and knowledge about how a construction or pre-construction phase runs and, overall, how a project operates. It will be up to them to learn as much as possible because the internship is what they make of it. The more they put into their work, the more they will get out of their experience for their professional future.
