The Cybersecurity Intern will work alongside the Information Technology team to support the organization's cybersecurity program through monitoring, analysis, and security-related projects. This role provides hands-on experience in a real-world healthcare technology environment, offering exposure to cybersecurity operations, threat detection, vulnerability management, and security best practices.
The intern will assist with monitoring security systems, investigating alerts, identifying potential vulnerabilities, documenting findings, and supporting cybersecurity initiatives that help protect organizational systems, users, and sensitive information. This internship is ideal for students seeking practical experience and professional development in the cybersecurity field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and review security alerts generated by cybersecurity tools and platforms.
  • Assist in investigating security events and documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Support vulnerability identification, assessment, and remediation activities.
  • Participate in security projects and initiatives under the guidance of IT and cybersecurity team members.
  • Help maintain cybersecurity documentation, procedures, and knowledge repositories.
  • Assist with user account reviews, access controls, and security compliance activities.
  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
  • Analyze system logs and security reports to identify potential risks or suspicious activity.
  • Contribute to security awareness efforts and educational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IT staff on projects that enhance the organization's overall security posture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Information Technology department.

Requirements
  • Currently pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles, networking, and operating systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred
  • Coursework or hands-on experience related to cybersecurity, networking, or system administration.
  • Familiarity with security tools such as SIEM platforms, endpoint protection solutions, vulnerability scanners, or firewalls.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare security and privacy requirements, including HIPAA.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python or PowerShell.
