Job description

CO-OP OPPORTUNITIES
Build real infrastructure. Learn fast. Make an impact.

Why this Role

Ready to turn your Co-Op term into real, hands-on experience that builds the infrastructure connecting communities across Canada? Dive into the world of telecommunications, mapping, and software at Encepta.

We're seeking Co-Op students from multiple disciplines (Design/Engineering, GIS, Software, and related programs). Whether you're looking for your first industry placement or ready to level up your skills, we have opportunities that match your interests and learning goals.

Join our team to contribute to meaningful deliverables on active projects, learn from experienced mentors, and see how work moves from the field to design, data, and digital tools. In this collaborative environment, you'll be at the center of the action-asking questions, building relationships, solving problems, and growing quickly. If you thrive in a fast-paced setting and are excited about continuous learning, this is the opportunity for you.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Reporting to our Manager, Operations, you will contribute to project success through hands-on work aligned to your discipline and learning goals. Your day-to-day responsibilities will depend on the discipline and placement you are matched with. Collaborating closely with Project Managers, Technical Field Staff, Designers/Drafters, Engineers, and cross-functional partners, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting telecommunications design and engineering work, including field surveys, measurements, drafting, and design updates (AutoCAD/Revit and related tools).
  • Using GIS and CAD tools to create field packages, analyze data, and help maintain data integrity in our Enterprise GIS.
  • Assisting with workflow improvements, automation, and documentation, and collaborating across departments to build better integrated data processes.
  • Contributing to software development projects by writing, testing, and debugging code, and participating in the development life cycle and code reviews.

Across all roles, you'll help maintain strong quality standards, learn safe work practices, and support team goals through clear communication and follow-through.

What Success Looks Like

Within your term, you'll be successful if you are:

  • Learning quickly and applying feedback from mentors and QA/feedback sessions.
  • Producing accurate, well-documented work (design updates, GIS data, analysis, code, or reporting) that the team can rely on.
  • Managing your time well across multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Communicating clearly, asking good questions, and collaborating effectively with the team.
  • Demonstrating curiosity and initiative, including suggesting small process improvements.

What We're Looking For

We're open to Co-Op students from a range of programs, including engineering/technology, GIS, computer science, and related disciplines. Strong candidates typically bring:

  • Interest in infrastructure, telecommunications, mapping, data, or software (depending on discipline).
  • Comfort learning new tools and systems (for example: AutoCAD/Revit, GIS/CAD tools, Python/SQL, JavaScript, or common programming frameworks).
  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Organization and time management for multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative, respectful work style.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace or equivalent productivity tools.

What's In It for YOU?

We know that when you grow, we grow. That's why we offer more than just a job, we offer a launchpad for your career:

  • Real experience: help expand critical infrastructure that connects communities across Canada
  • Career growth: opportunity to advance your skills and develop into roles, learning from design, engineering, GIS, and software professionals.
  • Skill growth: build practical skills in your discipline and beyond, with exposure to how infrastructure projects work end-to-end.
  • Hybrid work model: flexibility to work remotely, in-office, and on-site as needed
  • Collaborative, inclusive culture: we value your voice, your safety, and your contribution
