The AUKUS, Submarines, and Industrial Base Group (ASIG), within SPA's Sea, Land, Air Division, provides timely, objective, analytic assessments that integrate technical, operational, programmatic, policy and business analysis to NAVSEA Team Submarine program offices and key stakeholders surrounding submarine platform construction. Team Submarine unifies submarine platform procurement activities, which includes the Columbia-class SSBN program (a Major Defense Acquisition Program and the Navy's top acquisition priority), the Virginia-class SSN program and the new SSN-X program (developing the next generation attack submarine), to bring improved capabilities to our undersea forces. Analysts and Engineers supporting Team Submarine will continue SPA's decades of support to the SSBN force, as well as supporting oversight of cutting-edge attack submarine construction, assisting in developing the design requirements for the SSN platform of the future, and helping plan and execute new and innovative strategies to strengthen the critical submarine shipbuilding industrial base. These are high-profile, major acquisition and manufacturing programs of significant importance to the future capabilities of the US Navy in an era of renewed strategic competition. #MC
Responsibilities
The Hydrodynamics and Ship Control System Integration Team (SIT) Lead will support the Team Submarine SSN(X) Future Attack Submarine Program Office (PMS 351). This role focuses on providing day-to-day on-site support to the Technical Director (TD), Ship Design Manager (SDM), and Project Officer (PO) across future attack submarine design, development, and R&D planning activities.
The SIT Lead will serve as a strategic programmatic and technical leader, responsible for coordinating and guiding the broader hydrodynamics and ship control systems engineering community. Core responsibilities include scoping technical efforts, ensuring alignment of engineering tasking across performers, and overseeing execution of design, development, and integration activities within the SSN(X) hydrodynamics and control systems portfolio.
This position emphasizes programmatic leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams, stakeholder coordination, and integration of technical work to meet program objectives. Responsibilities also include supporting risk management, schedule development and tracking, technical documentation, strategic advising, and the overall management of technical execution.
This position is located full-time on-site at the Washington Navy Yard with frequent trips to NSWC Carderock.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, Naval Architecture, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience managing complex Navy technical programs, with a demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage schedules and resources, and engage a wide variety of stakeholders
  • The ability to work full time onsite
  • Strong programmatic background overseeing technical execution, risk management, and delivery of engineering products for Navy or defense-related projects
  • Experience with submarine or naval platforms is beneficial; however, a background in hydrodynamics or submarine stability/control is desired but not required for this role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and MS SharePoint
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance and the ability to maintain this throughout employment

  • 5+ years of experience supporting U.S. Navy submarine programs or related technical efforts
