ROLE OVERVIEW:Responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in grading, pipe, and base laydown activities. Position requires travel throughout MN and ND.
WORK SCHEDULE & TRAVEL:Seasonal Full-Time Position
100% Travel Required - This role is based in the field at project locations and requires extended time away from home
COMPENSATION:$40.00 -$45.00 per hour depending on experience.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)
- Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
- Plan, organize and execute daily operations with a crew of 5-8 people.
- Safely and properly supervise and coordinate activities of workers.
- Mentor and coach operators to ensure they achieve safety and production goals daily.
- Complete daily timecard, production and diary entries as required using packaged construction software.
- Communicate trucking needs to dispatch department. Accurately monitor trucking costs.
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
- Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, Lockout/Tagout, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)
- Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment
- Minimum 5 year's experience in heavy civil construction. Emphasis on MnDOT, NDDOT and other highway projects.
- Must have knowledge and experience in the operation of heavy equipment used in road building such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, loader and scrapers.
- Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
- Positive attitude and ability to take direction is a must.
