POSITION PROFILE:

Safran Defense & Space, Inc. Testing & Telemetry is seeking a motivated college-level engineering intern to support mechanical, aerospace, systems, and test-related engineering activities. This internship is intended for an undergraduate student interested in applying engineering coursework, analytical thinking, and technical problem-solving within a high-reliability aerospace and defense environment.

The Engineering Intern will support practical engineering tasks such as design documentation, technical analysis, test support, process improvement, and engineering project coordination. This role is well suited for a student with strong math and physics fundamentals, experience with engineering tools, and an interest in aerospace systems, mechanical design, testing, and product development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist engineering teams with mechanical, aerospace, systems, or test-related project tasks.
  • Support development and cleanup of engineering documentation, technical summaries, test records, and design support material.
  • Assist with basic engineering analysis, calculations, and data review using tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Support lab, prototype, calibration, or test readiness activities as appropriate.
  • Assist with CAD-related tasks, model review, drawing organization, or design documentation using tools such as Autodesk Inventor or similar platforms.
  • Help organize engineering project trackers, action item lists, test matrices, or schedule inputs.
  • Support process improvement initiatives related to engineering workflows, documentation control, lab readiness, or test execution.
  • Participate in technical meetings and capture notes, action items, risks, and follow-ups.
  • Assist with research, benchmarking, and technical background summaries for engineering projects.
  • Learn how mechanical and aerospace engineering principles are applied in an aerospace business.
  • Learn how engineering teams support design, development, testing, and production readiness.
  • Learn how technical documentation, requirements, test evidence, and configuration discipline support product quality.
  • Learn how engineering data is reviewed, organized, and communicated for decision-making.
  • Learn how cross-functional teams work across engineering, operations, quality, program management, and supply chain.
  • Prepare and present a final internship summary covering work completed, lessons learned, and recommendations.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related technical field.
  • Strong foundation in math, physics, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Interest in aerospace, defense, telemetry, mechanical systems, testing, or product development.
  • Experience with MATLAB, CAD tools, engineering simulations, or technical modeling.
  • Ability to organize technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Comfortable learning new tools, processes, and engineering systems.
  • Prior research, tutoring, technical project, or hands-on engineering experience preferred.
