Job description

Docket Specialist

Staff designated at Dickinson Wright PLLC ("the Firm") as a Docket Specialist function as part of the IP Administrative team, working with attorneys and staff to manage and maintain client's critical deadlines utilizing the firms centralized docket database. This role can be hybrid or fully-remote, but candidate must live in a location where the firm has a physical presence.

Essential duties and responsibilities of staff designated as Docket Specialist at the Firm include but are not limited to:

  • Support clients, attorneys and other staff members by performing an administrative role and handling detail-oriented and critical tasks;
  • Operate a computer, fax software, copy/scanning machine, telephone;
  • Maintain electronic files on behalf of clients;
  • Manage mail and emails from Patent and Trademark Offices, and local Agents;
  • Receive, analyze and enter critical deadlines in the Firm's centralized docketing database;
  • Audit patent and trademark records against publicly available information;
  • Monitor and clear the critical docket to ensure no deadlines are missed;
  • Write and execute specialized docket reports;
  • Process large docketing projects, including new client intakes;
  • Work as a team to prioritize tasks;
  • Research foreign and domestic patent and trademark law.

Docket Specialist must:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required along with at least 2 years of experience in computerized docket databases for deadline management of trademarks and/or patents;
  • Experience with CPI and NetDocs preferred, along with working knowledge of domestic and international patent and trademark country law;
  • Strong experience with Microsoft applications required, including Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Experience working in an electronic/remote environment preferred;
  • Strong analytic, writing and communication skills, attention to detail, with a high level of focus and organization;
  • Work effectively both independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and handle a diverse and high-volume workload in a professional manner;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, problem solve and work under pressure;
  • Be willing and able to maintain client confidentiality and exercise good judgement when making decisions and handling certain situations;
  • Regular and timely attendance at work when scheduled;
  • Be willing and able to sit at a desk/computer for long periods of time.

Normal law office environment with little exposure to noise, dust, temperature.
