Job description

Summary:

The Data Collection Moderator will facilitate and moderate data collection sessions with participants. You will be responsible for managing session flow, utilizing various equipment and gadgets, and coordinating the use of specific accessories to ensure high-quality data capture.

This is an on-site, freelance (1099) contract position for an initial project duration of 1–2 weeks, with the potential for additional project-based work in the future. We are looking to build a pool of reliable moderators for upcoming recurring projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspire and coach participants so they feel comfortable, confident, and creative during 1-2 hour sessions.
  • Moderate and manage each session end-to-end: greeting participants, explaining the study, obtaining consent, and answering questions in a clear and friendly manner.
  • Direct participants through a structured shot list to capture facial/eye recordings across appearance variations.
  • Maintain high standards for image and video quality, including framing, lighting, and resolution, following detailed project guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the project team to refine creative direction, session flow, and prompts that encourage natural movement and expressive styling.
  • Set up, test, and care for studio or mobile equipment (cameras, lights, backdrops, capture apps), escalating any technical issues as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire people in person: experience in roles like study facilitation, coaching, customer-facing work, performing photo-video sessions, or events preferred.
  • Proven creativity in instructing people, posing, or styling, and comfort, suggesting new ideas on the spot to get more expressive, varied content.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with participants across ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds with empathy and respect.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the discipline to follow specific instructions and consistently document what has been collected.
  • Comfortable using technology and learning new tools for data capture, file upload, and tracking (tablets, mobile apps, spreadsheets, or web portals).
  • Ability to stand, move, and actively direct sessions for extended periods in a fast-paced environment.

Personal Attributes

  • Naturally creative and curious, always looking for fresh ways to show fit, style, and body diversity on camera.
  • Warm, energizing presence who can quickly build rapport and put participants at ease.
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working to a schedule while still leaving space for experimentation.
  • Open to feedback, flexible with changing project needs, and motivated by building something that improves real-world sizing and fit experiences.
