Freelance Developer Startup information

What is a freelance developer startup?

A Freelance Developer Startup is a business or initiative founded by one or more freelance developers to offer software development services to clients. Unlike traditional employees, freelance developers work independently or as part of a small team, handling projects for various clients on a contract basis. A startup in this context often refers to a new venture aiming to scale or specialize in specific technologies or industries. Freelance developer startups provide flexibility, innovation, and tailored solutions, leveraging the founders' technical expertise. These startups may also evolve into larger agencies or product-based companies over time.

What are some common challenges freelance developers face when working with startups, and how can they be addressed?

Freelance developers working with startups often encounter rapidly changing requirements, tight deadlines, and evolving project scopes. To navigate these challenges successfully, maintaining clear and frequent communication with stakeholders is essential. Setting well-defined milestones and deliverables, using agile development methods, and being adaptable to feedback can help ensure alignment and project success. Additionally, leveraging collaboration tools like Slack, Trello, or GitHub can streamline teamwork and keep everyone on the same page.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance developer in a startup environment?

To thrive as a Freelance Developer in a startup, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and a portfolio showcasing relevant projects, often supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and frameworks relevant to the startup's tech stack is typically expected. Self-motivation, effective communication, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for independently managing projects and collaborating with dynamic teams. These competencies enable you to deliver high-quality solutions, respond quickly to changing requirements, and build trust with clients in a fast-paced startup environment.

Job description

Field Marketing Manager
Denver · Hybrid

Gravitee is a 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ Leader, on a mission to govern the world’s intelligence.

We deliver the industry’s most advanced platform for Any API, Any Event, and Any AI Agent, trusted by global leaders like Michelin, Roche, and Blue Yonder.

Why Gravitee?
  • The Mission: We are bridging the gap between traditional tech and the new frontier of AI Security.

  • The Momentum: We combine the credibility of a market leader with the high-octane speed of a startup.

  • The DNA: We hire "Hold Nothing Back" individuals - passionate professionals who want to redefine how the world interacts with technology.

The Role

We're hiring a Field Marketing Manager to own regional demand generation and event strategy across our US market, driving pipeline and revenue impact in close partnership with Sales. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you'll build and execute the field marketing plan that turns our national campaigns into localized, high-converting programs — partnering closely with Sales, Demand Generation, and Product Marketing to make every regional touchpoint count.

A core part of this role is running field marketing like a pipeline engine, not an events calendar. You'll use data on pod performance, SQL quality, and account engagement to decide where to invest — which regions, which formats, which accounts — and you'll be accountable for the pipeline those investments generate. You will champion a culture where every regional program has a clear commercial reason to exist.

As our Field Marketing Manager, you will own the end-to-end regional marketing plan for the US — from third-party conferences and owned events to ABM programs, regional dinners, and Sales-aligned field campaigns. This is a builder role: you'll be hands-on planning and running programs yourself while also managing agencies, vendors, and freelance production support to scale what works.

The ideal candidate has run field marketing in B2B SaaS before, thinks like a pipeline owner rather than an events planner, and is equally comfortable building a regional strategy deck and standing at a booth making sure the badge scanner works. This is an opportunity to be the connective tissue between corporate marketing strategy and the regions where deals actually get won.

What You’ll Be Doing

Regional Strategy & Planning

  • Build and own the US field marketing plan, aligning investment to pod performance (NORAM East, NORAM West) and pipeline targets.

  • Partner with Sales leadership to identify target accounts, priority regions, and the right program mix (events, ABM, dinners, roadshows) for each.

  • Localize national campaigns and narrative (including category and product messaging) into regional programs that land with specific audiences.

Event & Program Execution

  • Plan and run the full lifecycle of field programs: third-party conference sponsorships, owned events, executive dinners, regional roundtables, and account-based experiences.

  • Manage logistics, budget, staffing, and follow-up for every program, ensuring a consistent, high-quality on-site experience.

  • Stay hands-on: manage vendor relationships, review creative and signage, and be on-site for flagship programs.

Pipeline Accountability & Measurement

  • Own pipeline and SQL targets for field-sourced and field-influenced programs, reporting performance by region and pod.

  • Build a clear post-event follow-up process with Sales and SDRs to convert event engagement into pipeline.

  • Track program ROI and use the data to reallocate budget toward what's working.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Demand Generation and Paid Media to ensure field programs are supported by pre- and post-event nurture and ad targeting.

  • Work with Product Marketing to make sure regional messaging reflects current positioning and category narrative.

  • Collaborate with Sales on account selection, outreach cadence, and program follow-through so field marketing is viewed as a revenue partner, not an events function.

Budget & Vendor Management

  • Own the US field marketing budget, including sponsorship negotiations and vendor contracts.

  • Select and manage external partners (production, staffing, swag, venues) to extend program capacity without compromising quality.

Essential Skills
  • 4+ years in field marketing, event marketing, or regional demand generation, ideally in B2B SaaS or technical/developer-focused companies.

  • Proven track record of owning pipeline or revenue targets tied to field programs, not just attendance or satisfaction metrics.

  • Strong Sales partnership instincts — comfortable working directly with regional sales leaders and SDR teams on account selection and follow-up.

  • Experience managing full event logistics end-to-end, from budget and vendor selection to on-site execution.

  • Comfortable using pipeline and marketing performance data (e.g., SQL volume, pod performance, program ROI) to make investment decisions.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to run multiple concurrent regional programs against tight timelines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience localizing corporate messaging for regional or account-specific audiences.

  • Based in the US, with willingness to travel regularly to events and regional markets.Who Thrives Here

Our growth is powered by people who bring passion to their craft, professionalism to their execution, and a commitment to excellence. You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Care deeply about high-quality output and brand clarity.

  • Are curious, adaptable, and energised by the fast-moving AI landscape.

  • Take full ownership of your projects from concept to completion.

  • Value a culture of openness, collaboration, and constant evolution.

  • Are a self-starter who thrives in high-energy environments, balancing rapid hustle with strategic focus.

  • Pension / 401k program options

  • Mental health days + wellness allowance

  • Your birthday off ????
