Flexable Hours offer flexible scheduling options across various industries, allowing workers to choose their working hours. Customer Service Representatives typically work in structured environments with more defined shifts, though some roles now incorporate flexible scheduling. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find roles that match their preferred work style and commitments.

How do flexible hours typically impact collaboration and communication within a team?

Flexible hours can greatly enhance work-life balance, but they also require clear communication and collaboration strategies. Teams with flexible schedules often rely on digital tools like shared calendars, messaging apps, and project management platforms to stay connected and ensure everyone is aligned. It's important to establish core hours when all team members are available for meetings or quick discussions. This helps maintain productivity and fosters a sense of teamwork, even when team members are working at different times.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a flexible hours role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a role with flexible hours, strong time management, personal accountability, and self-motivation are essential qualifications, often supported by prior experience in remote or independent work. Familiarity with digital communication and project management tools such as Slack, Zoom, or Asana is typically important to coordinate with teams and track progress. Excellent communication, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving skills help individuals stand out in this environment. These qualities enable employees to maintain productivity and meet goals while navigating variable schedules and less direct supervision.

What does it mean to have flexible hours in a job?

Having flexible hours in a job means that employees can adjust their work schedules outside of the traditional 9-to-5 structure. This can include choosing your start and end times, working compressed workweeks, or even splitting your hours throughout the day. Flexible hours are designed to help employees balance their work and personal lives more effectively, which can lead to increased job satisfaction and productivity. However, the degree of flexibility varies by employer and position, so it's important to clarify expectations with your employer.

Job description

Step Ahead ABA is hiring a Registered Behavior Technician for one client in Waukee, Iowa.

Schedule: Mon/Wed/Fri afternoons, about 6 hours per week. This posting is for a single client case, so the hours and days above are the actual hours, not a range we hope to fill.

Exact session times for this case: M/W/F 4:30pm-6:30pm (days are flexable).

ABOUT THIS CASE

A BCBA is already assigned to this client and covers this region. You get the treatment plan and a handoff before your first session, not after. Our current RBTs get first look at every new case — we fill from inside before we go outside. If this posting is up, the case is still open; we take postings down the day a client is matched.

WHY STEP AHEAD ABA

We believe every autistic child and their family deserves access to therapy, no matter their income. Step Ahead supports families on Medicaid across Iowa, and we go the extra mile to keep those plans open. Every family gets a dedicated care manager and a schedule built around their real week. Your schedule comes from three things: what is clinically appropriate for the client, the family's availability, and yours. It is never set by a corporate hours target.

THE CLINICAL SIDE

  • You deliver 97153 direct therapy to a treatment plan and behavior intervention plan written by the BCBA who assessed this client.
  • Supervision is real supervision: QA and IOA checks in session, observation, and feedback you can use — not a signature at the end of the month.
  • You collect session data and submit notes for the work you do. Non-billable time is paid at $10 per hour.
  • Our BCBAs and clinical directors bring a combined 40+ years of clinical and operational ABA experience.

WHAT THIS ROLE REQUIRES

  • Active RBT certification with the BACB. Not certified yet? Step Ahead offers complimentary support to get there — see our Behavior Technician posting.
  • Prior ABA experience
  • Availability Mon/Wed/Fri afternoons, about 6 hours per week
  • Reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to stay active and engaged in session

WHAT YOU GET

  • $21–$23 per billable hour to start, with a pay increase at each level of the RBT Leveling System. $10 per hour for non-billable time — training and required meetings, a small share of the week. You know both numbers before you start.
  • Cancellation protection as you level up. A client cancelling should not wipe out your week, and from Level 1 there are bonuses that protect your pay.
  • The RBT Leveling System: pay increases, gift card rewards, priority for client placement, and floating holidays as you move up.
  • You pick your clients and set your own hours.
  • Capella University partnership — discounted tuition and degree support, plus BCBA supervision and a pathway if that is where you are headed.
  • Benefits at 40 hours a week. This case is about 6 hours; our placement team will tell you what else is open near you.

Apply below and our placement team will be in touch.
