Job description

Introduction
Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI), located near Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is looking to hire a full-time Medical Technologist - Senior to work from 6:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday . WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary
As a Medical Technologist - Senior, you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Collection (including DNA).
  • Examining and analyzing specimens including urinalysis.
  • Tasks relating to blood chemistry, serology, hematology, bacteriology, and microbiology.
  • Reporting test results.
  • Aiding in the diagnosis of diseases.
  • Coordinating specimen collection and preparation for the Wisconsin State Laboratory and contracted reference laboratory.
  • Guiding professional and paraprofessional staff in procedures and techniques, recording laboratory test results, making comprehensive and routine reports; maintaining, repairing, calibrating laboratory equipment including required proficiency testing and maintaining all performance documentation, and preparing solutions.
  • Purchasing supplies and Laboratory equipment as necessary.
  • Following workflow direction and tasks assigned by lead Medical Technologist or supervisor.
  • Clinically accessing, maintaining, and monitoring the Laboratory Information Service (LIS).
  • Completing tasks related to Joint Commission Survey readiness in a proactive and collaborative manner and communicating concerns to the lead Medical Technologist and supervisor when they arise.
  • Interacting professionally and respectfully with all disciplines while keeping appropriate team members in the lab informed of issues and concerns.

Salary Information
The starting pay is between $36.50 and $40.00 per hour (approximately between $75,900 and $83,200 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 15/03.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to complete a pre-employment health assessment including a TB screen prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or similar organization. Must be certified by time of appointment.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing lab specimens
  • Experience performing phlebotomy tasks.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience working within Joint Commission Standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience applying Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) laboratory standards.
  • Experience using Cerner and Pathnet software.
