Division Information
The Pet Care business unit of Spectrum Brands is based in St. Louis, Missouri with distribution, manufacturing and sales offices throughout the US and globe. Owners of dogs, cats, birds, small animals, fish and reptiles rely on our brands for exceptional value and trusted results. Job Summary
The HR Manager supports our Blacksburg facility which manufactures a variety of products in the Spectrum Brands portfolio. The HR Manager will oversee all aspects of human resources management in the factory, ensuring compliance with labor laws and promoting a positive workplace culture. This role involves recruitment, training, employee relations, performance management, and policy development.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Partner with leadership teams to ensure workforce planning and people strategies support business requirements.
  • Attract, recruit, and hire both hourly and salaried workers.
  • Lead site through annual engagement survey process, from survey administration to action planning.
  • Manage one direct report (HR generalist).
  • Oversee site performance and talent management processes.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate HRIS entry and payroll submission oversight.
  • Provide management and employee coaching and counseling.
  • Analyze data on employee turnover, employee engagement surveys, exit interviews and other metrics, and make recommendations to enhance and improve HR programs and services.
  • Model the Spectrum Brands values and behaviors to meet and exceed organizational objectives and support fiscal responsibility

Employee Relations:
  • Guide supervisors and managers in matters of employment law and regulations. Ensure investigations are conducted in a professional manner, compliant with all relevant local, state and federal laws, and that all parties involved are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Coach and counsel supervisors and employees on performance-related problems. Resolve issues to maintain positive employee relations while optimizing organizational performance.
  • Investigate employee relations cases, Code of Conduct violations, and make recommendations for resolutions and ensure appropriate documentation occurs.
  • Identify and implement training initiatives to provide fundamental human resources knowledge to supervisors and managers in support of their roles as leaders.

Employment and Compensation:
  • Work with Managers and supervisors to ensure teams are staffed appropriately using standardized workforce planning metrics.
  • Ensure effective new hire experience and onboarding for all new hires or internal promotions.
  • Partner with the Spectrum Brands Compensation team to continually assess marketplace to ensure company is competitive in terms of compensation that supports a pay for performance culture.

Company Policies & Procedures:
  • As a member of the Blacksburg Operations leadership team, the HR Manager will participate in the development, harmonization, and implementation of site HR related policies and procedures. This position will be responsible for ensuring effective communication of these policies to the organization. The position will also be responsible for updating and ensuring all policies and procedures comply with current employment laws and practices.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on plant safety practices, foster and maintain culture of continuous improvement, and support the communication of plant safety measures and ensure HR teams is monitoring and taking appropriate actions based on safety key performance indicators.

General
  • Develop and maintain monthly KPI reports for business function.
  • Participate in Lean initiatives and other department and/or company-wide projects.

Education and Experience Profile
  • BS/BA in Human Resource Management, Business or related field;
  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in a manufacturing environment
  • SHRM certification a plus
  • Experience with the National Labor Relations Act a plus

Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills required
  • Ability to handle conflict and perform comfortably in changing, fast paced environment
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite - Workday or Ceridian Dayforce experience a plus
  • Must maintain high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism
  • Works well independently or as part of a team
  • Understands the importance of fostering an open and respectful work environment

Work Environment
This role is based on a plant/office environment. HR focus is 75% manufacturing support and 25% support for professional functions outside of manufacturing.
This position is an in-office role, expectations are onsite Monday - Friday in a production environment.

The salary range for this role is $102,000 - 128,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographical location, and business or organizational needs.
