**IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ**
This Job Profile will be moving to a higher pay range beginning October 5, 2026. Any job offers made after this date will be placed with a new hiring rate of $22.15.

To be considered for the Fire Fighter Recruit position:
1. Submit your application and resume through Tucson Talent
2. Create a Public Safety Answers account at: https://www.publicsafetyanswers.com/tucson
3. After creating your Public Safety Answers account, log in and complete the written exam on the website.
4. Call the Public Safety Academy at 791-4701 to schedule a date/time for ONE CPAT Orientation (this is not mandatory) but it is highly encouraged. If you choose to forgo this, you will have to sign a waiver stating you willingly did not attend.
5. We will accept valid CPAT cards obtained between May 1, 2026 - October 25, 2026.
*Copy of valid CPAT card should be sent to Adriana.Tovar@tucsonaz.gov by October 25, 2026.
Posting will open on August 1, 2026 and close on August 20, 2026.
Save the dates:
CPAT Orientation will commence on August 29, 2026 and September 12, 2026.
CPAT practices, by invitation only, will occur between September 24, 2026 - October 10, 2026.
CPAT final will occur between October 23, 2026 - October 25, 2026.
Intern Orientation, by invitation only, will be sent to all who passed CPAT by October 27, 2026.
Intern Orientation dates will occur on November 14, 2026 - November 15, 2026 and November 21, 2026 - November 22, 2026. This portion of the test is conducted over one weekend on two consecutive days.
Hiring interviews, by invitation only, will be sent on December 1, 2026.
Final interviews will occur between December 7, 2026 - December 11, 2026.
Contingent job offers will be sent December 15, 2026.
Final offers will be sent on January 26, 2027.
The Academy will begin on February 8, 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities
This classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.   • Demonstrates fire suppression competencies by safely operating modern firefighting tools and equipment, recognizing fire behaviors, and building construction factors, and applying appropriate suppression tactics in accordance with departmental SOPs and nationally recognized standards.
  • Applies risk-based decisions making to identify, isolate, and mitigate hazards during emergency and non-emergency incidents.
  • Performs core firefighting skills through regular drills and live or simulated training evolutions, demonstrates proficiency in hose deployment, water supply, ventilation, forcible entry, search and rescue, and exposure protection.
  • Conducts patient assessments and provides emergency medical care at the first responder level by utilizing evidence-based protocols, effective communication, and scenario-based practices in both classroom and field training settings.
  • Inspects, operates, and maintains fire apparatus and equipment before, during, and after training evolutions to ensure operational readiness and safety.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
