PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the guidance of the NW Works (NWW) Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the agency, including the implementation of NW's mission statement, coordination of services, community outreach and marketing, and the creation of a visionary, healthy and productive work environment for clients, employees and staff.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
• Create a Vision and Strategic Plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Effectively communicate that plan with all staff in its development and execution and gain their commitment. Develop a method for making periodic updates to the vision to ensure growth and organizational improvement.
• Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and senior leadership to provide an example of Core Values (Dignity, Respect, Teamwork, Client Focused, and Pursuit of Excellence).
• Lead the development and execution of financial plans / budgets that will ensure the long-term success of NWW.
• Actively engages with clients and staff at all levels, ensuring concerns are heard, addressed, and appropriately followed up on.
• Maintain personal habits and demeanor appropriate to the reputation of NWW and the office of Chief Executive.
• Refine, update, and maintain a comprehensive enterprise-wide risk assessment process to monitor internal and external risks, develop strategies for mitigation and control, and prepare periodic reports for the Board of Directors noting areas of concern.
• Working with the Leadership Team, the CEO holds overall responsibility for individual, team and organizational development; recruiting, hiring, direction, goal setting, performance evaluation, etc.
Community Engagement/Marketing
• Preserve and enhance the reputation of NWW by personally representing the Agency in the local community, the State of Virginia, and nationally, as necessary.
• Responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of a marketing and public relations presence in all media as necessary and as circumstances dictate.
• Promotes and protects the reputation of NW Works by encouraging positive, professional staff engagement with community partners and stakeholders.
• Report periodically and as frequently as necessary to the Board of Directors on any issues that may significantly impact the reputation of NWW.
Legal & Regulatory Compliance
• Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance policies, procedures, training and assessments to ensure that all NWW program and operational activities are maintained in a constant state of legal and regulatory compliance. Notwithstanding adherence to applicable regulations, provide a system of controls that always ensures that the safety of clients and staff is paramount. No less than annually, provide a statement to the Board of Directors on the state of these policies and programs and secure approval from the Board of Directors for any changes to policies.
• Maintain an internal, objective quality assurance and compliance process that provides ongoing monitoring, testing and reporting to the Board of Directors.
• Assure the continued maintenance of a process for bringing the voice of Whistleblowers or any other allegations of malfeasance to the attention of an independent member of the Board via a secure process as dictated by Board approved Policies.
• Assure that NWW and its clients' interests are appropriately represented by involvement in state and local agencies. Keep the Board informed of legislative developments that may impact NWW.
Internal & External Reporting
• Assure that NWW appropriately represents itself to all regulatory bodies and examiners, is adequately prepared for regulatory examinations, properly and promptly responds to any regulatory criticism, and that all regulatory filings are timely and accurate.
• Develop, maintain and provide an ongoing process for reporting on all key activities of NWW to the Board of Directors at an agreed frequency.
• In coordination with the Board of Directors, engage Independent Accountants to perform an annual audit and prepare Audited Financial Statements in accordance with GAAP as well as any other required filings, such as Form 990.
Staff Development
• On an ongoing basis, evaluate the needs of, provide training for and monitor the quality of all necessary therapeutic, managerial and technical skills to all staff and report thereon on a periodic basis to the Board of Directors.
• a system for providing timely verbal and written performance feedback to staff and monitors the effectiveness of coaching and development efforts.
• Develop a competitive pay structure that is fair and aligns with the aspirations and vision of NWW.
Client Development & Goal Attainment
• Establish and promote the highest quality vocational and Day Services for NWW clientele. Develop, implement monitor and report on an annual plan for Therapeutic Program services in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
• Promotes a supportive environment that respects the rights and abilities of all clients, and regularly seeks feedback on service quality. Provides at least annual reports to the Board of Directors on client feedback and service outcomes.
• Provide vision and leadership for all community-based client strategies, including job placement and ongoing follow-up.
Financial Development and Leadership
• Develop, implement, monitor and report on an Annual Plan for NWW in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Provide status reports on an agreed frequency to the Board of Directors.
• Assure that a robust set of financial policies and procedures is maintained supporting adequate internal financial controls over the NWW's compliance with GAAP for financial assets and the reporting thereon.
• Responsible for seeking out grant funding, charitable gifts and other federal or state sources of program funding in order to maximize revenues and maintain NWW's various mission activities.
• Develops, implements, and maintains relationships with local and national businesses to secure contractual partnerships that create paid work opportunities and support the mission and financial goals of NW Works and its clients.
• Working with Board Leadership, provide oversight of NWW financial investment funds and with the Board Finance Committee, control, review and monitor the prudent investment funds. Report on investment results, including any disbursement or fund changes on a regular basis to the Board of Directors.
Supervision
The CEO reports to the Board Chair and is accountable to the Board of Directors through the Governance Committee.
Location Requirement
The President/CEO serves as the organization's primary community ambassador and is expected to maintain a strong local presence. Therefore, candidates must reside in the Winchester, Virginia area or relocate to the area upon appointment.
Compensation
This position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $140,000 to $195,000, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated executive leadership. The organization also provides a comprehensive benefits package.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Demonstrated success in leadership, management, communication, and team development, including responsibility for full profit and loss (P&L) oversight.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with a diverse staff and community, including individuals of varied backgrounds, disabilities, and professional disciplines.
- Five or more years of senior leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization or similarly mission-driven environment.
