Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the product strategy and roadmap for demand planning capabilities at Whole Foods Market. This domain focuses on building and delivering demand forecasting capabilities that enable Merchandising teams to access accurate, long-range forecasts as well as demand signals for special planning events that the Merchandising team uses to drive decision-making. By driving excellence in upstream demand planning capabilities, this role ensures a seamless planning handoff throughout the supply chain.
The Senior Product Manager will own the product vision, roadmap, and execution for demand planning tools and platforms. The role serves as the critical bridge between WFM Merchant Teams and technology partners, translating complex business requirements into scalable product capabilities.
This role requires a total-store approach and a lens of customer and team member centricity that facilitates solutions in service to all categories within WFM's assortment. The successful candidate will be a key change agent in support of advancing WFM's Growing With Purpose strategy and the Demand Planning 3-Year Plan (3YP).
You will orchestrate Engineering, Pricing Optimization, Merchandising, and Finance to deliver scalable, reliable pricing execution solutions that improve customer trust, reduce manual rework, and strengthen operational efficiency. You will drive clarity in a complex, multi-system pricing landscape, define the metrics that matter, and build the tooling to move them.
The right candidate thrives in ambiguity, is deeply customer-obsessed, and has a proven track record of delivering complex product initiatives that span business strategy, technology, and cross-functional alignment. You are comfortable working with data pipelines, influencing senior stakeholders, and translating complex operational workflows into clear product requirements and roadmaps. You drive clarity where there is ambiguity, earning trust along the way.
Key job responsibilities
1. Champion the Merchant Experience: Obsess over the WFM Merchant as the primary customer. Conduct discovery interviews, ride-alongs, and Voice of the Customer Summits to deeply understand merchant workflows, pain points, and decision-making needs - then translate those insights into product requirements that reduce friction, save time, and improve forecast trust.
2. Own Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define and maintain the three-year product roadmap for demand planning capabilities spanning seasonal, promotional, and new item forecasting across all categories. Identify capability gaps and prioritize development to deliver a unified demand plan that serves as the enterprise base plan.
3. Drive Product Execution: Own the end-to-end product lifecycle and future tools. Write BRDs, define acceptance criteria, and partner Tech, Data & Science teams to ship capabilities that merchants actually adopt and love.
4. Measure What Matters: Improve and expand the Demand Planning KPI framework and establish merchant-centric success metrics - including automation rates, time savings, and user adoption - to ensure every feature delivers measurable value back to the merchant.
5. Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising Presentation, and Technology stakeholders to align on forecasting inputs/outputs and ensure a seamless planning handoff throughout the supply chain.
A day in the life
You'll spend your time working backward from the needs of pricing analysts and category managers - understanding their pain points, and goals. You'll partner with with PM-Ts to define and prioritize the features that drive the most business value. You'll run alignment meetings with leadership, write crisp product documents, and track progress against goals. No two days are the same - you might be reviewing a UX prototype in the morning, presenting a roadmap to senior leadership in the afternoon, and diving into adoption data in the evening.
About the team
Your morning starts with a stand-up alongside engineers reviewing forecast model performance, followed by a deep-dive with a Category Merchant to understand how they're using your tools to plan an upcoming seasonal event. After lunch, you're writing acceptance criteria for a new promotional forecasting feature, then joining a cross-functional working group with Supply Chain and Operations to align on planning handoff requirements. You close the day reviewing forecast accuracy dashboards and prepping insights for your monthly Voice of the Customer readout.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 5+ years of end to end product delivery experience
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience in influencing senior leadership through data driven insights
- Experience working across functional teams and senior stakeholders
- 3+ years of demand planning and forecasting experience
- Experience in written and oral communication, including the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization (technical, business, executive)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of end to end product delivery experience
- 2+ years of grocery leadership, or 3+ years of customer-facing retail, hospitality, or grocery industry experience
- Experience with demand planning, forecasting, forecasting accuracy, or retail inventory planning.
