EnviroScience, Inc.Full time Regular

The Restoration Construction Engineer in Training (EIT) at EnviroScience is an entry-level engineering role with a focus on supporting the design and construction of environmental restoration projects. The position involves working closely with senior engineers, scientists, and project managers to develop and implement solutions that restore and enhance natural habitats, waterways, and ecosystems. The Construction EIT will assist with construction activities such as site preparation, stream and wetland construction, vegetation installation, and related restoration construction practices. Additionally, the EIT will assist in project design, data analysis, fieldwork, and plan and report preparation.

This position may require out-of-town or extended stay work based on specific project locations. Work over weekend hours is not anticipated.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Construction & Fieldwork Support

  • Assist in the implementation of design plans, according to the schedule, budget, and resource allocation
  • Prepare daily site reports, maintain project records
  • Assist with material tracking and procurement
  • Participate in topographical and morphological data collection, site stake out, as-built data collection, and other field data needs

Design Project Support

  • Assist in the development of engineering designs and plans for restoration projects, including stream restoration, wetland creation, and habitat enhancement.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to prepare project documents, such as design plans, technical reports, cost estimates, and construction specifications.
  • Complete calculations for design quantities and construction cost estimates

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze environmental data, such as hydrological, geomorphological, and ecological metrics, to inform project designs.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, project progress, and recommendations for senior engineers and clients.
  • Assist with as-built plan and report development

CAD & Technical Support

  • Develop and modify AutoCAD drawings and GIS maps to support project designs and visualizations.
  • Work with the design team to refine project models and simulations.
  • Assist in preparing digital files for stake out and construction needs

Communication & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including ecologists, biologists, and environmental scientists, to integrate multidisciplinary perspectives into project designs.
  • Provide regular updates to project managers, construction leads, and design leads on assigned project tasks.
  • Maintain work schedule and communicate upcoming work needs with manager

Professional Development

  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to develop technical skills and knowledge in restoration engineering.
  • Work towards obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • At least 1 year of experience in construction (earthmoving, sitework, etc.) or ecological restoration implementation.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, particularly related to site civil design, hydrology, hydraulics, and soil mechanics.
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience:
  • Experience with ecological restoration, stream restoration, or related environmental projects.
  • Experience with fundamental elevation data collection and surveying.
  • Familiarity with regulatory permitting processes (e.g., Clean Water Act, NPDES).
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM).
  • Proficiency with GIS software and applications.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and materials relevant to restoration projects.

Work Environment

This position will be a mix of outdoor fieldwork and in-office work. Outdoor fieldwork will be in a variety of terrain and weather conditions, including work in remote or challenging locations. Overnight travel is expected and is based on project location. Work in and around heavy machinery is expected and necessary as part of this position.

This position is a remote hybrid role, meaning employees may work remotely but may be required to come into the Stow, Ohio office to retrieve their company vehicle and/or equipment each day or on an as needed basis for training or other job duties.

Standard office equipment will be provided to enable you to work in the office or at home. The home working environment must be one that facilitates productive and efficient work. Uninterrupted home-based internet is necessary in your home to attend and host video calls, along with a minimum bandwidth speed of 20 mbps. If you do not have in-home office space or cannot meet the internet needs, an office space will be provided for you in the company's Stow, Ohio office.
