Description Title: Graduate Research Assistant, I Hoa Na Mo'olelo - Ke Panana Aloha Position Number: 0000GA11 Hiring Unit: Hawaiinuiakea School for Hawaiian Knowledge, Kawaihuelani, Center for Hawaiian Language Location: University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu - HI Date Posted: 6/5/26 Closing Date: 6/19/26 Salary Information: GA-11, step 17 - $2,627.00 monthly/ $31,524 yearly. Monthly Type: 11-month Full Time/ Part Time: Part-Time Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Funding: General Other Conditions: Temporary, part-time position through June 30, 2026. Continuation dependent upon availability of funds, GA eligibility requirements and satisfactory performance
Duties and Responsibilities: Under supervision of the director of Ke Panana Aloha (KPA), assist with the writing, illustration, and preparation of the children's magazine Ke Panana. Collaborate with fellow writers and illustrators to create new content for publication in the magazine. Such content may include: stories and descriptions of famous places and events on Oahu, comic strips, word games, art projects, vocabulary building activities and more.
Meet regularly with the KPA director and other writers and illustrators to plan and develop moolelo to be published in the magazine. Assist in scheduling, announcing, and documenting KPA meetings. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Full time Graduate Student in good standing. BA in Hawaiian language. Experience conducting research in Hawaiian language newspapers and other repositories of moolelo.
Experience composing moolelo in Hawaiian. Comfortable using Google Docs, Google Sheets, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Zoom. Desired Qualifications Current Graduate Student in Kawaihuelani.
Abilities in visual art ssuch as drawing, painting, digital rendering, photography, etc. Has pilina to the community and organizations centered in a specific district of Oahu. Familiarity with kula kaiapuni and/or existing relationships with one or more kula or kumu.
