Job description

Normandeau is seeking a temporary, full-time, entry-level individual to support our mussels survey department. This temporary position would start immediately and could continue through October 2026.

Responsibilities for the position:

Candidates will assist senior staff in a variety of field projects including:

  • Freshwater Mussel Surveys
  • Fish surveys, water quality, and macroinvertebrate sampling
  • Assisting field leads with data collection and processing.
  • Collection of environmental data and biological samples from freshwater ecosystems.

Several projects will require overtime hours and extended overnight work stays. Candidates will be expected to be available for these projects and provide any dates they are not capable of fulfilling these requirements.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be expected to understand and retain training related to various field collection techniques assisting with the preparing field gear for use and demobilizing and storing gear at the end of each workday. Work in the water will be required via snorkeling.

Experience with boat operations or diving along with the ability to work independently with proper training, troubleshooting, and problem solving are preferred.

Minimum qualifications for consideration will include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Diving certification is a plus.
  • Boating experience is a plus.
  • A willingness to work in harsh and uncomfortable working conditions, including outdoor field sampling both in the river and on a boat.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50-75pounds.
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to hike potentially extensive distances, carry field gear through rough terrain to access study sites.
  • Effective and efficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
