Job description

Regular Schedule: 39 hours per week A Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Office of Information Technology. Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants. Examples of Duties DEFINITION OF RESPONSIBILITY Responsibilities include, documentation of existing systems and changes; providing support and problem resolution for an enterprise network with over 1000 routers and switches and more than 300 remote sites; working with Network Engineers on projects; sharing rotatational on-call duties throughout the year; assisting with maintaining network connectivity in a 24 x 7 environment; assisting in the installation of new systems; perform preventive maintenance as necessary; interacting with various vendors on problem issues and RMA requests; assisting Network Engineers with infrastructure support as needed; attending status and project meetings; responding promptly to service requests; and maintaining logs and status reports as required.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assists with equipment configuration, installation, testing and system administration of the following Routers Switches Wireless Access Points Firewalls Network control appliances IP Address management UPS's, PDU's, etc to support power to all equipment Cabling infrastructure Prepares and maintains network diagrams and documentation. Plans for and submits change controls. Troubleshoots basic and advance problems, makes effective diagnosis, and comes up with resolutions.

Responds to service desk calls/tickets. Interfaces with other OIT staff and Agency customers for planned maintenance and changes. Ensures that systems are being backed up on a regular schedule.

Experience with vendor platforms like Cisco, ForeScout, Palo Alto EXAMPLES OF OTHER DUTIES Assists on network related projects, either alone or working with other Network Engineers. Configures accessory devices as necessary. Develops and maintains effective working relationships.

Performs other duties as required and assigned. (NOTE:) The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. They may not include all of the essential job functions of each position in the class.

Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree in information technology, computer science, computer engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university; Experience: At least two (2) years hands on experience in a multi-platform/vendor networking environment, including Cisco platforms. Experience must include work demonstrating thorough knowledge of the following technologies: TCP/IP, LAN & WAN technology; packet analysis; network security solutions.

CCNA, or additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. If substituting experience for education, your application must demonstrate appropriate relevant experience in order to meet the required qualifications. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry-level) Knowledge of the principles and practices of Information Technology.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application. Conditions of Employment Work an average scheduled workweek of 39 hours, Monday through Friday; Performs on-call rotation when they must be available on-call for production problems 24 hours per day, 7 days a week; Performs off-hours system changes and updates; Carry a cell phone; Travel within Baltimore County, for work and training; and may be required to use their own vehicle to travel to remote sites for troubleshooting and installs. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-provisional, non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application.
