About this Job At the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, our mission is to promote public safety and strengthen communities through fair, professional, and responsive law enforcement services. As a Cyber Crime Analyst I, you'll apply your technical knowledge to support criminal investigations in the digital world.

Working alongside experienced law enforcement professionals, you'll assist with digital forensic examinations, cyber threat investigations, incident response, and technical analysis that helps identify, investigate, and combat cybercrime. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals with a strong technical foundation, a passion for technology, and a desire to make a meaningful impact through public service. You'll receive hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities to develop specialized skills in digital forensics and cyber investigations while contributing to real-world cases.

You aren't expected to know everything on your first day. We're looking for candidates who bring strong technical fundamentals, critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in law enforcement, cybersecurity, intelligence, or investigatory work plus one year of experience in digital forensics examinations or cybersecurity; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in digital forensics examinations or cybersecurity; OR A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in digital forensics examinations or cybersecurity; OR A bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Conduct digital forensic examinations of computers, networks, and electronic media Analyze and interpret complex technical evidence for criminal investigations Support sensitive and large-scale cybercrime investigations Assist with incident response and cyber emergency operations Provide technical guidance to investigators and prosecutors Participate in multi-agency task forces and investigative meetings Evaluate and integrate new technologies into investigative workflows Deliver training or instruction on cyber investigative tools and methodologies Applicants with the following skills are encouraged to apply, but the skills are not required: Experience with some forensic tools (examples: EnCase, FTK, Autopsy, Magnet AXIOM, X-Ways, Volatility) Basic memory forensics awareness Timeline construction from multiple artifacts Malware triage exposure (hashes, strings, sandboxing) SIEM exposure (Splunk, Elastic, OpenSearch, or similar) Threat intelligence concepts (IOCs, MITRE ATT&CK, STIX/TAXII) OSINT familiarity (Maltego, Shodan, VirusTotal, WHOIS/DNS analysis) Python or PowerShell scripting for automation Participation in cyber clubs, competitions, labs, internships Comfort presenting technical information to others Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (40 hrs./week) Monday - Friday Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
