Job Summary:
An entry-level proofreading professional with strong computer, linguistic, and editing skills. Under the guidance of senior proofreading staff, plans their workload to complete projects in multiple English dialects and non-English languages.
Responsibilities:

  • Proofreads and edits English text with an eye for consistency, professional tone, accuracy, structure, and adherence to company style under the guidance of senior proofreading staff. Also reviews bluelines for printed materials.
  • Proofreads for consistency by comparison in all languages. Works closely with members of the translation, production, and curriculum teams to resolve questions.
  • Answers technical and stylistic questions and helps maintain company's Style Guide and Proofreader Guide under the guidance of senior proofreading staff.
  • Clarifies meaning of phrases and terms for translation.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • An Associate's degree in linguistics, writing/editing, or equivalent.
  • Excellent English language skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with applying an established style to projects (e.g., the Chicago Manual of Style).
  • Familiarity with proofreading both hard copy and electronic formats (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader).
  • Experience proofreading for consistency by comparison in non-English languages.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation.
  • Experience proofreading with Microsoft Word's Track Changes feature.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word's index and table of contents features.
  • Experience with applying an established style to projects (e.g., the Chicago Manual of Style).
