Job description

CUSTODIAN - 7.5 HRS/DAY @ GARFIELD ELEMENTARY

HOURS: 3:15 PM - 11:15 PM (except during break periods, then day shift)

INTERNAL BIDS THRU 5/27/26 @ 4:00 PM. 

EXTERNAL APPLICANTS (WE WILL HIRE EXTERNALLY IF NO SUCCESSFUL INTERNAL BIDDER): Open until filled.

New Hire: Entry Level Rate $17.84/hr.  Current employees with seniority in the bargaining unit, please refer to the Salary Schedule established by the bargaining unit.

Duties & Responsibilities:   (Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)

Closer Responsibilities 

  • Trash removal
  • Cleans restrooms
  • Cleans all surfaces
  • Vacuums all areas- hard & soft surfaces
  • Repositions furniture correctly
  • Dust/vacuum ceiling vents
  • Vacuum upholstered furniture
  • Assist with deep cleaning during break periods- stripping, scrub & recoat, cleaning restrooms, glass, and furniture.
  • Removes snow.
  • Minor grounds keeping
  • Lawn mowing
  • Assist with delivery of supplies
  • Properly maintain equipment  
  • Reports maintenance issues to Head
  • Properly use and maintain equipment per owner's manual and or direction from maintenance staff
  • Operates all energy consuming devices in the most efficient manner striving to attain maximum energy conservation
  • Make minor repairs to equipment, building, furniture, hardware, windows etc..
  • Reports major repair problems to head custodian and maintenance department
  • Responsible for closing and securing building
  • Must establish and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with teachers, students and fellow employees
  • Must treat fellow workers with respect and facilitate a non-hostile work environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Physical Requirements of Position:   (HBV   X Yes      No)

  •   Have physical ability to lift and carry 56 lbs.
  •   Have the physical ability to climb an eight-foot ladder and perform custodial tasks

Special Qualification Desired:   (Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)

  • Must have high school degree or GED
  • Must be able to direct others to the successful completion of assigned tasks
  • Have a thorough knowledge of all cleaning procedures, chemicals & equipment
  • Ability to learn how to operate a computer, use email, open attachments and complete electronic work orders.
