Location: Southern Mill - Athens, Ga Job Family: Specialist
Reports To: Packaging Manager Exemption: Non-Exempt
Entry Level
Position Purpose: The Packaging Specialist I works as a member of the Packaging Team to package beer for distribution at the highest level of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Efficient Execution of Packaging Schedule
  • Operate packaging equipment (24-head Krones Craftmate counterpressure can filler, GPI Quickflex continuous packer, KHS Combikeg kegline).
  • Learn to run cleaning cycles on can and keg filler.
  • Work with Packaging Shift Lead to understand packaging schedule calendar and what needs to be packaged and at what quantity.
  • Assist with all packaging line changeovers.

2. Skills & Competency Development
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, under supervision.
  • Clean and maintain packaging equipment.
  • Log information immediately and accurately including maintenance issues or requests.
  • Perform packaging or facility related duties as required or assigned.

3. Quality & Safety
  • Use Personal Protection Equipment properly, adhere to and uphold the CCBC culture of safety and all OSHA regulations.
  • Handle chemicals safely.
  • Maintain all quality standards set for packaging.
  • Alert Packaging Shift Lead or other management to potential quality or safety concerns.
  • Run daily and hourly quality checks on Brite beer ready for package and finished goods.
  • Follow all CCBC GMP and food safety policies in accordance with FDA regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

4. Teamwork & Time Management
  • Participate in daily pre-shift meetings with Packaging Shift Lead to understand expectations for packaging runs.
  • Support other members of the Packaging Team to reach a common goal in executing the packaging schedule as efficiently as possible with minimal downtime.
  • Communicate cross-functionally all changes or potential changes to packaging schedule.
  • Perform daily end-of-shift cleaning duties to set the next shift up for success.

Requirements
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred. Packaging Specialists work with hand tools such as, but not limited to, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, and some power tools.
  • Problem Solving. The ability to use deductive reasoning and troubleshoot issues with equipment based on sight and sound. Work (under supervision) to resolve mechanical issues with equipment.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work both independently and with the Packaging Team in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask with a positive, solution-oriented mindset.
