Day (United States of America)Job Summary:Functions under the direction of the Surgical Services Director, Operating Room Manager, Specialty Coordinator and Anesthesiologist. Provides age appropriate patient care, which addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and patient/family educational needs. Has anesthesia-related experience in variety of surgical specialties including trauma and emergency situations. Has knowledge regarding biomedical equipment. Must be flexible with schedule and understanding in the urgency of care with patients undergoing anesthesia. Schedule may be altered by manager when other staff members are on vacation and / or when the needs of the schedule dictate. Must be available to take call as required. Must be able to respond in the OR within 30 minutes of notification. Must demonstrate positive teamwork, behavior and communication.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:Assists the perioperative team in the operating room with surgical procedures, including but not limited to general, orthopedic, neurological, spine, plastic, ENT, vascular, thoracic, GYN, oral and trauma procedures. Administers direct and in-direct care for patients undergoing the above procedures with supervision from licensed personnel.Set up anesthesia supplies in OR suitesPicks up patients for surgery and assists patient transport to and from holding areas to surgical suites and to recovery areas if applicable.Assist with patient transfer to OR bed and positioning of patientObtain blood products, pharmacy products or any other products as needed if applicable.Obtain supplies/equipment needed by anesthesia and OR staff throughout procedures as needed.Mop, clean and turn over OR suites at end of case and ensure proper stock of anesthesia supplies for to follow case if applicable.Assists RNs and surgical technicians with room set up, supply management and patient charges if applicable.Assist the anesthesia team as directed with peripheral, spinal blocks or epidural blocks.Duties and responsibilities include; interfacing and supporting other team members in the Operating Room, PACU, ICU, GI Lab, Vascular Institute, L&D and other departments as needed with cross training in monitoring, stocking, setting up, testing and troubleshooting equipment and assists with nursing and anesthesiology duties. Maintains all equipment pertaining to anesthesia in the operating room and other locations where anesthesia services are provided.Ability to understand, direct, teach and troubleshoot non-invasive monitoring equipment. Maintains skills and competency checks for identified equipment and quality control responsibilities.Pick up ICU beds and prepare transport monitors / cables in a timely manner if applicable.Clean LMAs, laryngoscope blades and handles, bronchoscopes, glidescopes and any other instruments requested by team according to manufacturers instructions for use if applicable.Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in good working order for anesthetizing locations outside of the main operating room.Ensures that supplies are available in the operating room and other locations where anesthesia services are provided.Maintains and restocks surgical scrub supplies at scrub sinks, at OR entrances, and dressing rooms with hats, masks and shoe covers. Checks and replaces sharps containers if applicable.Manage and restock inventory of all specialty supplies and anesthesia carts.Stock sheets, blankets etc. Maintain and stock appropriate levels of fluid in warmer/ refrigerator and linen and trash bags.Other duties as assigned.Participates in staff development and professional and self-developmental activitiesTeaches and orients new staff.Participates in performance improvement, quality measures, NPSGs, nursing shared governance and all other department projects and meetings.Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.Required Minimum Education:
  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Associates General-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):Required Minimum Experience:Minimum 2 years previous operating room experience PreferredRequired Minimum Skills:Must have excellent communication skills.Should be highly organized with ability to set priorities and make adjustments as needed on daily demands.Ability to work with all levels of care providers.Must be self-directed and self-motivated with strong customer service skills.Must be able to understand, speak and write English well to communicate with surgical services team.
